Karen, we have as many as 4 or 5 world class midfield players that can offer what Jorginho offers but no-one fits the dinho model, other than dinho himself....When Fern isnt playing we seem to "lack" something in midfield....All I'm saying is Jorginho is a a top class footballer but doesnt fill that gap...

Wait and see what happens in the summer,if not this year then next,we have time with dinho,pep did say we need to replace yaya so think of this kid for that and chill about the dinho successor

I agree....I think Pep's prioritised a Yaya replacement above a Fern cover/replacement and in my opionion thats why we moved away from Fred in Jan....As Yaya played very little last season I just dont see a squad replacement for him as important as help/cover/replacement for Fern, who was a big part in us winning last season....what ever happens Jorginho is a top class signing if/when it happens....
 
Why are people saying we need a younger fern? makes no sense. we have fern. we aren't replacing fern this summer, we're replacing yaya.

we need someone to play like fern, i reckon we'll play fern.

we need someone to play like jorginho, for when fern needs a rest or playing like fern isn't what pep wants.

the team needs to be like a swiss army knife, different tools for different jobs. you don't buy a swiss army knife that is just 8 of the same blade.

plenty of teams do that and it doesn't work. look at the rags, lets buy a bunch of left wingers and tall blokes and play counter attacking hoofball. oh dear its not working, lets err bring on another left winger or another tall bloke, they wont expect that.

It's honestly really strange how people keep parroting "Jorginho is replacing Fernandnho" . Yaya's gone and Delph is a back up LB now.

Fair comment mate, only problem is your point can work both ways. We already have 4 or 5 with the same blade(strengths) as jorginho...Yaya played very little last season so the need for another Yaya is minor as shown by our points total....We had the best season ever in the history of the prem with a Fern type player and when you only have one like him in the squad and he's 34yrs old before the end of the season, it would seem that we need another Fern more than another Yaya (who only played a handful of games last season).

For me, Fern is what we need for the prem/cup and Jorginho is what we need for the Champions League....Problem is, like Silva, I dont see Fern keeping up the same pace for another 40-50games again this season....just think its a big risk!

Maybe were missing how we play because in most games de bruyne drops deep picking the ball up and dictating the play so jorginiho could be another option to kev.
 
Just a general observation but it seems to me that a lot of posters labour under the misapprehension that we need to go and find direct like for like replacements for any player that might be coming to the end of their career with us. For example, we have known for a couple of seasons that Yaya's legs had gone, so the clamour was for us to look for a new Yaya. What we were overlooking was that Yaya was a Mancini buy, for his system and for the way he wanted to play. It doesn't necessarily mean that Pep would have chosen to buy Yaya for his system if he were making the decision, in fact iirc he was the one that sold him to us from Barcelona so that must tell us something. Apart from the fact that you can never source a replica player to one that is leaving, (I think part of the clamour for Pogba 2 or 3 years ago was because people thought that he was a ready made replacement for Yaya, and we all know how that would have turned out) it is a fact that teams change and evolve with time and different managers and players coming in. Ferna has been a great player for us and Pep has used him well but he may not be Pep's ideal player for that position. Pep will have his own ideas about what he wants in any replacement player for that position and it may not necessarily be a Ferna clone.

We will in the end - unless another target can be aquired to do the same job.
If we put in a bid in for £50m De Laurentis may raise the price. He has history in this respect.
