We already have 4 or 5 with the same blade(strengths) as jorginho...Yaya played very little last season so the need for another Yaya is minor as shown by our points total....We had the best season ever in the history of the prem with a Fern type player and when you only have one like him in the squad and he's 34yrs old before the end of the season, it would seem that we need another Fern more than another Yaya (who only played a handful of games last season).

For me, Fern is what we need for the prem/cup and Jorginho is what we need for the Champions League....Problem is, like Silva, I dont see Fern keeping up the same pace for another 40-50games again this season....just think its a big risk!

Very good post, as was the @shak post. I’ve kept my mouth shut regarding this debate because you just have to trust those in charge (and look what they’ve proven). If I’m throwing my two cents out there then I’ve got to say that Fernandinhos overall game adds more value then your typical cliched Pep DM in the Prem + more ‘modern’ game IMO. I just think that the future is in dynamism throughout the entire pitch. The pressing, aggressiveness, the athleticism, + positive approach is the future. Not just for us, Napoli, lfc but it will be for more clubs as we go forward.

We still do have Fernandinho after all and like the poster mentioned Jorginho is a great alternative (much better than Gundogan who I personally don’t like at DM). I reckon we’ll get that athletic DM type when Fernandinho leaves whether it’s next summer or the year after.

claudio gomes might be a reason we eased up on fred and also our answer to fernandinho aging. obviously not ready made but had to have gotten some assurances to make the switch (if it is still happening). think jorginho/dinho/gundo/gomes is plenty of depth until right player emerges

I completely forgot about Gomes. That’s a good call. How far along is gomes? Do we even have a feel for that yet?

I sometimes think that Fernandinho's athleticism might cover up for positional flaws in his game. He was the DM when Brazil got smashed 7-1 by Germany. For me when he was missing and Gundogan replaced him we didn't miss him. At Barcelona in that position Busquets is often described as an 'anti athlete' but he mastered that position through long range passing accuracy.

I get the impression that Ferna is 8/10 on _everything_ all the time, but in Pep's system it's sometimes better for the team to be 10/10 on a few things, especially passing and positioning. I'm waiting for a flurry of shitposts in response to this but there you go.

It’s not a controversial post at all and in fact it’s a very good one that I can’t even really disagree with. I could pick and argue some of it but it’s very valid and makes a lot of sense to me personally as I think in that type of way myself. I completely agree with the 10/10 statement in Peps system is better than an 8/10 in everything. It’s really a tough one for me because you can improve your positional awareness and passing to elite levels but you can never improve athleticism in the same regard.

I trust the staff and untimately I’m probably in the wrong here in what I’m looking for in our DM but if we’re striving for perfection then eventually you’ll have your Jorginho but he’ll also have the aeriel ability, pace, grit, and workrate of a Fernandinho.

I disagree, even if teams did try and press then having hard tacklers is the opposite to what you need. The way to beat the press is to have more players who can manage the ball under pressure and that is why Pep is after Jorginho and not a midfield cruncher

the team needs to be like a swiss army knife, different tools for different jobs. you don't buy a swiss army knife that is just 8 of the same blade.

plenty of teams do that and it doesn't work. look at the rags, lets buy a bunch of left wingers and tall blokes and play counter attacking hoofball. oh dear its not working, lets err bring on another left winger or another tall bloke, they wont expect that.

Jorginho didn’t seem to be in the Italian squad last night, injured or sorting out a move ??
 
I know it doesn't fit the Pep way, but I'd be awfully tempted by Kante and perhaps he's a better footballer than he's given credit for.

At the moment it seems everyone is leaving CFC, or will be unless they get their act together

Manchester City board member Alberto Galassi confirmed talks for Jorginho, but Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis “knows the value of his players.”

Galassi has been on the Manchester City board since 2012 and is the chief executive of Piaggio Aero Industries. He was a guest on Sky Sport Italia this evening and asked specifically about Jorginho.

“He is one of the players we like, we never disguised that. However, De Laurentiis knows the value of his players and is very good at negotiations.

“We are a fair club, we do not go against the wishes of other clubs or try to approach players without first agreeing terms with their club.

“One thing is for sure, if there is a deal, it’ll be at suitable terms for both clubs. I personally believe if this is done, it’ll be a few hours before the transfer deadline, which in a World Cup year is always going to be unusual.”

The Italian-Brazilian midfielder has long been a target for Pep Guardiola, but President De Laurentiis confirmed at the weekend he had rejected an offer worth €45m plus €5m in bonuses from City.

It is reported Napoli are holding out for €60m and will sell the 26-year-old at that price.

That would be a massive profit, as the Partenopei paid €9.5m to take him from Hellas Verona in January 2014.

This season, Jorginho contributed four goals and four assists in 39 competitive games for Napoli, but above all again shattered Serie A records for completed passes.

Kante would instantly become the weakest link in our possession gameplan.

Fernandinho's athleticism is great but it'll be his technique, stamina and positional awareness we look for in a replacement.
