A lot of good but not great films on the list this year. I think most people are seeing through the Black Panther Best Picture nomination, especially when films like If Beale Street Could Talk and even Sorry to Bother You exist. Although I did love the soundtrack.

Best Supporting Actor is definitely the most interesting category, and I have a feeling Best Animated might be competitive too.

As long as A Star is Born doesn't win too much I won't be unhappy at anything. It's a smug awards bait film, on Crash levels almost.

I reckon they'll be greater forces at work ensuring Bale doesn't win anything.

I agree it's been quite a poor year film-wise.

So, this is quite interesting where 'ASiB' is concerned.

Apparently the Hollywood industry isn't too fond of 'Gaga'(not sure why), so I think the 'dark forces' will be at work to gut 'ASiB', plus it's a film that's been done a few times now and why would you reward a remake of a remake??

As for Bale, well, Hollywood is always denigrated by the Right Wing, so why not p*ss them off anyway?

Strong outside chance of an upset win, so we'll see.

Didn't know that about Gaga, something tells me it's her complete lack of an acting background combined with her image if you're info's right. At least with Streisand she always had some sweet girl next door appeal when she won her Oscar (For Funny Girl, not ASiB; how many remakes have there been?!). Also logically as you say why would you reward a remake of a remake? Although Hollywood doesn't always do logic.

I thought most of the Academy voters were old white guys? Wouldn't they work towards shitting on Bale? I guess we'll find out, it's speculation on my end.

If they really wanted to piss people off though yeah, vote in Bale and make sure Black Panther wins as much as possible too. I think the internet would break, gloriously so.
