Just a Filler Season

From September the 19th to January 13th which I would say is pretty close to a four month period of time (I did use the word virtually), we averaged 1.56 points per match which I think is fucking dire with the players we have (I did say relative to the players we have).
You could have said Sep 13th, same results, and exactly 4 months. I'll have to take your word for the 1.56 ppm. I just think its easy to be over critical, but of 4 league defeats, only 2 were 'dire' for me. I don't think an away defeat at Arsenal is 'dire', and we were the better side, as we were comfortably at Spurs, until that blind or paid linesman intervened. Small margins.

I could have said September 13th but that wasn't in the virtually four month period that I was referring to...the period where we were dire. I could have said 16 match period or been much more specific and stated the dates and times that I was referring to, I do apologise for any misunderstanding. It was 1.56 points per match over that period, that is pretty dire for a squad of our quality. I'm not suggesting it was exclusively dire (although I probably wouldn't have chosen defeat to Arsenal to illustrate that point if I'm being honest) just overall it was dire by our standards. Still, plenty of matches left and things appear to be improving.

All teams are dire every now and then. We've been consistently playing well only in patches, and giving away too many daft goals. There are mitigating circumstances and some culpability too, but Guardiola's likely impending arrival is not one of them in my opinion.

I don't think it would be showing anyone up Dave tbh. At the time of starting the thread we had been treading water for months and looked like going nowhere. We've possibly turned a corner in the last week or two but I'd hardly say the OP would look stupid for saying it felt like a filler season when the players appeared to be strolling matches for so long and the manager seemed reluctant to try anything significantly different to try and shake things up. Let's just hope we do kick on from here but even if we do, I'd say giving it the old I told you so would be a bit much considering how dire our league form was for virtually four months relative to the players we have.
I'd have gone ahead and highlighted how often the manager had attempted shaking things up with different personnel, tactics etc, but I doubt it will matter. :( It seems too many our dead set on believing the false storyline that he just seats there doing nothing.

Bit if you are interested in what he has truly done to shake things up. Examine the personnel usage from early October to now. Youd see consistent attempts to alleviate the malaise.

That most of this didn't bring a consistent desired result, wasn't due to lack of trying.

I often thought this year would be slightly transitional with the new players we've signed. However, if we didn't win a trophy this year it'd be hugely disappointing. Our squad is by some distance the strongest in the league.
