Sunday 8th April 2012

Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City
Manchester United 2-0 Queens Park Rangers

1 Manchester United 32 79
2 Manchester City 32 71

How desperate did we all feel that Sunday evening when Mario was dismissed with the table showing 32 games played and only 6 remaining with City a 'massive' 8 points - yes that's EIGHT points - behind the world's greatest football club with the worlds greatest ever manager who had seen it, done it and won it all so lets just remind ourselves what happened a few weeks later.

There are plenty of twists and turns remaining and when the pressure of that April run in gets going and no team can afford to lose a single point, that's when we will sort the men from the boys. If we are good enough we will win it and if we are not then we'll go again next season. This is now the reality of our beloved Manchester City Football Club that every season will be a title challenge with plenty of highs and lows.

It's fantastic, it's everything we've ever wanted and we're here living the dream.

Come on Blues let's stay positive, display some true Manchester grit and show the team how much we want it on Wednesday night and lets support them like the banner says.

"We dream of playing in the shirt. Today God chose you. Play like we dream."

The other thing to remember is that our best eleven playing at their best is the best team in the league and if we could ever field it for a few consecutive games, it might make all the difference.

To add balance that was 2 seasons ago. What about last season which was more recent?

I don't agree with "we have lost the momentum" ! Chelsea drew with West Ham did they lose momentum, no? Earlier in the season we lost a few games, did we lose momentum, no ! Infact losing/drawing will just motivate our players to go all out and win.

Its hilarious on here, when we win a game and then draw the next one it is "complacency". While when we lose one and draw the next one its "momentum". FFS guys get a grip, its 2 points with 13 more games ! Once the CL starts there will be more games for everyone with the FA cup, CL and BPL and we will have our best players coming in for this period.

If we beat Chelsea on Saturday, great we beat them and if we lose remember they will have to play those extra games with the CL which can cost them a match in the BPL and that's two points washed right there !

Last seaso it had no effect unfortunately. We had 7 points gap only end of January, many said the same, we turned it around from 8 points gap in 6 rounds.
Last year tho we had only 7 points gap to turn around with about 15 games to go and it ended in a 11 points gap. It has not less or more effect to our current title fight than the 11-12 season...

In that season we had those fighting 1-0 wins, scraped wins end of games, some ugly 1-0, 2-0 wins, also at least 16-18 clean sheets and a very good defence. While we scored less than this season we still scored the most goal and had the best goal difference. Actually our goal difference was that season after 25 rounds +45, now it is +41. (Also had 6 more points.)

I don't really get that though as no team will win the title every season and last season I think we can all accept was a hangover with problems behind the scenes rightly or wrongly. This season is Pellegrini's first in charge which I think the media and some fans have lost all complete knowledge of and to be where we are right now is fantastic. Every season for every club will have highs and lows, injuries, problems on/off field, bedding in periods, new players, formations etc. The bigger picture here is that we are going to be involved every season in every competition with amazing things going on off the pitch all around, this football club is about to become a monster in world football and we're still in the early stages of its development. Over the next 10-20 years we are going to experience some amazing days as well as some bad ones, it's a given when any team competes regularly for trophies that they cannot win every one. We all went through that last season in the league and FA Cup final but there will be other great days ahead.

I can still get pissed off with individual results but these days that feeling doesn't last anywhere near as long as it used to, in the past my whole week was a fucker until that next game. These days the following morning I'm buzzing again because I know we are so fucking good we go again.

-- Sun Feb 09, 2014 3:14 pm --

Think I'll go and lock myself in the bog and have a good cry over that.

First of all make sure there's a porter nearby to help you get out Jim ;-)
The way it turned out, I should have stayed where I was!

Haha LOL yeah it was probably the only highlight of the day Jim.

How true our best eleven floors any other best eleven just unfortunate that we have struggled to get them on the pitch together for some time

Totally agree with the op.
Win on Wednesday and could go top. Plenty more twists and turns to come.

I would like to see Chelsea cope without Matic and Hazard for say 1 month.

It would be a different story.

They've coped quite well without Matic for the last six months.

When I cast my eye back to the 2011/12 season, it's not just the opening games when we announced ourselves to the world, or the last six games which ended in an improbable title win, but it's also the downs that I include in my musings. The last minute goal at Sunderland, that kid crying at Swansea and that rain soaked day at the Emirates when it looked like all was lost. All of that season was part of a narrative which might never be bettered - and we were not only part of it, but ended up victorious at the end of it.

That's what competitive sport is about, especially at the very top. Every game matters and the stakes are invariably higher. Rather than sticking a fiver on black, all of a sudden you're putting a hundred quid on a single number. It's the same game, but with entirely different consequences. These differences are accentuated by the spotlight that is placed on those at the top. Using the roulette analogy again, all the pretty girls and curious day-trippers are placed around the high stakes table. No-one cares what happens at the low stakes table, other than those who are playing on it. Similarly us drawing at Norwich a few seasons ago wouldn't have merited a mention.

I do think that some of our supporters are ill-equipped to cope with where we now find ourselves, which is evidenced on here after these setbacks. In saying this I intend no criticism, or comment on their legitimacy as blues. People's personalities are pretty much set in stone from a certain age and just because our circumstances change it doesn't follow that our general disposition does. What people have to realise is that every season will contain days like Monday and yesterday. Half a billion quid can buy you a lot, but it can't buy perfection, especially in competitive sport. The reaction of some, to what is, in the context of the previous twenty games, a blip, is comical and absurd in equal measure.

I do sometimes wonder if some City fans are getting all they can out of this magical journey we've been on. I know if it all ended tomorrow I'd be able to say, within reason, that I got the very most out of an incredible experience. I'm not entirely sure that others could, in all sincerity, say the same. I do wonder if some will look back in a few years and realise that they never properly appreciated at the time what an incredible time this decade was to support Manchester City.

Seriously.

Are we now saying Matic is the reason they're challenging for the title? He's played all of about what 3 games in the league?!!!
