That bit about Macclesfield being a derby game for us THAT season brings back a lot of painful memories. Even allowing for the ginger genius being in charge, just how the fuck did we manage to end up in the "real" third division? Yes, I know we were truly shite in that era. But it's still hard to fathom that there weren't three teams worse than us in the Championship (or whatever it was called back then) in 97/98. Could any other team (would any other team) win the last game of the season 5-2 away, and still go down?
