Brilliant !

That's football, not like the fairy's that play in today's game

Everything is relative. My Dad used to say all the players were puffs when I was growing up in the 70s - "wouldnt have lasted a minute with Roy Paul" he would say

I am old enough to remember Roy Paul and Dave Ewing play - both really hard men. The difference between players like those two and Franny, Summerbee, Watson, Doyle etc and some of today's players was they would take it as a personal affront if they finished up on the deck. If they were injured, they would try not to limp just to show the opposition couldn't hurt them.

All the big teams had players like this. Shame that today's stars go down as though they've been hit by sniper fire as soon as anybody touches them.

Derby day at OT about 1970ish.
Franny and David Sadler were challenging for the ball on the half way line going across the pitch to where the tunnel used to be in them days. Suddenly Franny stopped dead with his foot on the ball and Sadler , unable to stop, headed on up the tunnel to the amusement of everyone in the ground.
Great player and good enough for any team. Wish we had him now.

not too sure if this is true.

we got a penalty in a match way back in the70`s.... last minutes of a game.
franny stepped up to take it,we were losing by a goal.
franny kicked the ball sooo hard ,he split it in two. with the goalie haplessly lost on the goaline,he watched the balloon shoot into one corner and the leather piece shoot to the other corner of the net. everyone paused.... franny stared at the ref! who, upon sh*ttin` himself gave two goals, city won 2-1.
THATS HOW HARD FRANNY LEE IS!!!!!!!!
(the CITY legends continue.....)
;D

ah a haahah

sounds like he might have given Chuck Norris a run for his money
