Just Stop Oil protests

Fuck me the gammon mob are in, edgy fuckers just bang on and on about it :)

I am far far from the gammonista mate - don't think I have actually posted on this thread but was just having a read and put my views in. I am pretty sure that nobody will be slow walking down Guisborough High Street as opposed to Oxford Street.....................no-one would notice near me and thats my point about protests ( and strikes - Jenkyns - why don't teachers strike in the summer holidays ffs ) the whole point of what they are doing is to disrupt or else who notices?

Anyway if we are going to have a wildfire here caused by drought want it sooner than later - we are looking to renew the kitchen and would rather do it on the insurance lol - also if the garage is gonna burn down I need to squeeze my car in there with the wife's....... maximise the opportunities !!

I'm off to do the big shop tomorrow, can't think any further down the line than that mate ;)

some of the rest of the population
i know many who dont think they are cunts

as for changes, well thats going to take time and lots more demos and lots more disruption. its the way of the world

for example suffragette movement (the disruptive and radical offshoot of the suffragists movement that had been campaigning for half a century peacefully and causing no disruption, but making little headway) was formed in 1903 and carried out disruptive demos for the next 15 years before women got the vote.
I believe there is much more we could and should do towards climate change , I just don't see how throwing orange paint around will get us there ,

women told other women they too would like to vote but chaining yourself to railings or throwing yourself under race horses was never going to work
OK I guess times have changed somewhat since then , do you feel that since these protests have started public opinion has swayed more in favour of supporting the protesters? As I feel quite the opposite

other than those of a ruddy hue who are roused to anger by certain "news" outlets and people actually caught up in traffic jams in London ( because all traffic runs at a minimum 30mph in London as we know and noting else ever causes jams) - then no. Even London with what a 9 million population will have had very few people directly affected - I have no idea about how support for their cause is going - I suppose the question is either does the just stop oil protests affect you - in which case my answer is no - or does it affect you directly then its yes. How are you affected? Are they demonstrating in your town or disrupting your local tennis or cricket club games?

Thats the thing if I was directly effected and therfore thought they were an issue then I'd be a NIMBY . Currently im not directly affected , and I also don't have the answer but I feel that in this day and age there must be much better ways of building up support for the cause

Once protesters interfere with normal peoples lives like getting to work and their entertainment, wether it be tennis, football. Golf, snooker etc....

Then their public support diminishes.

If we all supported their cause to the max we'd all be running about throwing orange stuff around and gluing ourselves to the roads.

I think about the same point you make in the last paragraph every time I see them do a protest tbh and get slightly annoyed with myself!

Not sure what that would actually be to make people act though. Governments know that the climate crisis already has public support but also know most aren’t willing to accept anything that potentially impacts their lifestyle, the latter makes it a lot easier for them to justify only acting with small measures that don’t actually make any difference.

It’s also a very tricky thing as it’s building support for a cause that doesn’t directly impact most right now, at least not that much - it impacts others elsewhere or future generations far more, neither of which most people feel anywhere near as emotive about as they do when it impacts them, which is why you get the response to the protestors that some people have right now and thinking even if they delay them watching sports just for ten minutes, they deserve to be locked up or have the shit beaten out of them but don’t feel anything like the same emotions about what they’re actually fighting for, the consequences of which, for others at least, being far far bigger.

That’s a very very big behavioural change to shift.
