It would be very interesting if the player who would not sign for us in his relative prime ultimately plays for NYCFC in his twilight years. He would likely dominate MLS, based on what friends tell me, and would fit the information released thus far by the club which is seeking highly-skilled, world-renown players to fill the "Designated Player" roles.

Thoughts?

AC Milan's Kaka interested in MLS move

Kaka has revealed he would seek to play for a Major League Soccer club if he were to leave AC Milan this summer.

The Brazilian, 31, returned to the San Siro on a free transfer in the summer after a four-year spell with Real Madrid, but he has been unable to avert the club’s slide towards mid-table this summer.

Kaka told the Corriere della Sera that he had always anticipated that his second spell with the Rossoneri would be more difficult than his first, during which time he won Serie A and the Champions League.

“When I arrived, I knew that the situation was not simple, but I have never regretted coming back here,” he said. “Every big club has times of crisis -- that’s part of football and part of life.”

He added that he was “happy” with his choice after a “difficult four years” in Madrid but would seek a meeting with the club’s general manager, Adriano Galliani, at the end of the campaign to determine whether he will remain in Italy.

“One day, I would like to play in America,” he said. “Let’s see. At the end of the season, I will talk to Galliani. Not just to speak about bonuses and money -- money is not the main thing for me now, and I think that is understood. I want to see what his ideas are and what the club’s ideas are.

“If it turns out I need to move, I will choose the MLS.”

Why is he entitled to a big money move?

He has his ability but he's fallen out of love with the game since he returned to Milan from what I have seen of his performances. At Madrid he had it still but was recuperating from his set-backs but now he seems to have made his mind that he's on a decline. He plays for a side that loves him, in a league that is made for older players with it's slower tempo tactical gameplay. Why leave?

If I was an MLS chairman I'd steer clear. He will cost a fortune just because of who he is and I'd sooner buy a young south american prospect. At least then you can field them and then sell on whereas Kaka costs a bomb and bring in nothing. I watch Serie A but never aim to watch AC Milan because they are turd and the drawer of Kaka is false. As a chairman you'd be better signing Frank Lampard.

Those are generally my thoughts regarding likely footballing performance outcome. However, his signing would be incredibly beneficial for branding and merchandise sales, which will be very important from the off (especially as profit-sharing is retooled in the MLS over the next few years). The South American players, barring certain exceptions, can be bad without using the "Designated Player" slots and would not build global awareness and media coverage a quickly as a Kaka signing (in South America, no less).

And nothing has been said to indicate we could not go for both (Lampard and Kaka in the midfield would not be bad given the current standard in the league). We could easily field both, with a Defoe like striker in the last high-paid player roles and fill out the rest of the squad with young American and City Academy talent (perhaps a few promising South Americans identified by our scouting network, as well).

Kaka is going to join Orlando City if/when he moves to the MLS. He is good friends with the owner (a Brazilian businessman) who has made it very public that he was going to bring in a big name Brazilian player. AS are reporting Kaka has already signed a pre-contract agreement.

Have they confirmed the pre-contract agreement is with Orlando City? If so, I would say it is a when, not if. But, if true, that would be a very odd decision from Kaka's professional career point of view. The best two clubs that would be able to assure continued media exposure and higher wages would be NYCFC or LA Galaxy. From my understanding Orlando City will likely be a smaller market team.

Interesting, though.
