It might have been the price you “paid” but I don’t think it’s the price you “pay”. Also question whether it was ever the going rate for a 29 y.o central defender with zero experience in the PL. Clubs are skint in the current environment. It’s a ridiculous sum of money for these 3 reasons. But, that’s my opinion. Happy to be proven wrong if this does go through.
Koulibaly is one of the best CBs in world football in his physical prime. 60m doesn't seem overpriced at all for what we're paying for. He's an immediate upgrade, offers leadership and comes with a big reputation.

Laporte has. Walker has. Cancelo picking up pace after a year with the club. Mendy had two long-term injuries (bad luck). Still think he’s on the rise. Aké = quality signing.
The mistakes were Stones, Danilo and Angelino. We swapped Danilo for Cancelo. Angelino is about to get sold, or loaned out again. Stones was a last-minute ”we need a ballplaying defender asap” when Pep arrived in 2016, because Laporte backed out late in the process.
I’d say we need to get rid of Stones and Angelino, and bring in Koulibaly, and our defence will finally be sorted.
Well, two final additions could come: a 4th choice CB (doubt it’ll be Stones and Garcia is out) and an actual LB to compete with Mendy.

By then, either Tosin or THB - or preferably both - will be absolute beasts, hopefully.We'll get 4-5 good years of a him and Laporte partnership whilst hopefully bringing on a younger future star .. if we can learn how to keep them....
