Kalidou Koulibaly

Of course I watched City last season Covid permitting
Did you ? ?
my preference is young and hungry yes it may be his last chance He maybe awesome He may also arrive take time to adapt and struggle
Like I say just my preference
Sane young and hungry Nolito established and his last chance to win something
Which of those would you take ?
Koulibaly is a world class defender in his prime & exactly what we need. Ideally it would be better if we could buy a 27 year old Koulibaly but we spent the the Summer of 2019 trying to find a defender and couldn't find one. Koulibaly is the most obvious defender to buy. It may not work out but there are no guarantees. This is the signing that should be right at the top of our list.

The difference is we aren't quite rebuilding now like we were at the time. If anything we lack experience and leadership in the backline, along with quality, which is exactly why Koulibaly's profile makes sense. Another young defender guarantees nothing but just more time to gain manager's trust as he improves and only then becomes a starter IF he gets good enough. Attackers are also much easier to find and put in the team from a younger age than centre backs.
No we’re not but we have an ageing team
Aguero Fernandinho Otamendi Walker ( to a degree ) Gundogan and Mahrez
some of these will need replacing very soon

like I say just my opinion he maybe fantastic I’m sure he will I personally prefer the level below at 23 who stays for 10 years and becomes an icon and a legend
That’s Why football is great we all have different views and ideas

So why not buy someone else who could give us 8 years as well.

If we could get somebody who could give us 8 years AND immediately make us better, then I’d be all for it

we have an urgent need for a centre back who is already world class and will improve our defence immediately. KK fits the bill

Huh, that's weird logic right there. You should be careful not to assume things I didn't say.

Koulibaly is in no way a stop gap signing, he is a signing to immediately make the team better right now and the future.

Never said we should gift youth chances, but the fact is having an older CB of high quality means eventually the youth CB will have more chances to break through than if we right now had like 4 young starting-quality CBs.

If we sign him, and over the next 5 years some of these youth CBs show there stuff in the few games they get chances then great, if they don't show the quality then bin them. I'm banking on the odds that one of those 4 become quality for us, considering how quick Eric got into the team.
I'd rather have a good 23 year old than a good 29 year old. If the academy players are good enough to force them out of the team, great. If they're not you still have six extra years to produce someone else from the academy.

Not every single signing has to be a 10 year plan signing. That’s our general demographic when we’re looking at new players but sometimes you have to be willing to break that rule for the final pieces of the puzzle, just as Khaldoon himself has said in his latest end of season interview. at some point we have to have everything come together at once, players like Aguero, Fernandinho, Walker even KDB cannot wait around anymore whilst we attempt to get our shit together elsewhere on the pitch and sign a 23 year old who’s going to take 3 years to establish himself as one of the very best, we need the best quality we possibly can get right now and I fail to see anybody better than Koulibaly.

Yes there’s a risk it won’t work as there is with every single signing but you reduce that risk to the lowest possible percentage when you go after the best. As much as it pains me to say it Liverpool did it twice and it got them what they wanted, it’s our turn now.

We signed Fernandinho at a similar age for a significant amount of money at that point, wonder how many people saying no to Koulibaly were against signing him too and he’s in a position where you typically peak earlier and decline earlier.

We’ve already got one in Laporte. Presumably Guardiola wants a blend of experience and youth?

And laporte has not re-established himself since his injury. Probably because the defence is a mess
