Is this the same Ake who has never kicked a ball for us now being the second best CB we have?If City decided to go with what we have got in defence, it would be a big gamble imo. At present our best cb's are Ake and Laporte, albeit both are left footed. Otamendi will be sold and I don't think Pep trusts Stones anymore which is understandable. We definitely need another cb and I am confident another cb will be purchased.

Large numbers of Italian players came over in the early years of the Premier League, but most of them stayed briefly and the more successful were attacking players. I can only think of Festa (Boro) who was a centre back, but he wasn’t of the highest standard. Must be others.Was thinking about our centre back conundrum and the general dearth of world class ones. Italian football is seen as the "art of defending" but have any Italian centre backs been a hit in the Premier League? My hazy memory is very few Italian players come over here despite the vastly greater wages on offer

We absolutely need a centre half - we cannot afford to make that mistake again. At some point we are going to have to dig deep into our pockets unless we can uncover a gem from somewhere.
My opinion is based on Ake's form at Bournemouth and I think he is a better player than Stones, Otamendi and Garcia. If Stones can sort his personal life and get back to playing like he did a few seasons ago, then Stones and Laporte are our besr 2 cb's. I had this exact discussion with an Italian mate a while back, he doesn't rate the new breed at all. Says Serie A is played at such a slow pace nowadays compared to England, Spain and Germany that their CBs are ruthlessly exposed when they come up against pace and pressing. Even Materazzi was extremely mediocre in his one season at Everton yet went on to play in a World Cup final for ItalyWas thinking about our centre back conundrum and the general dearth of world class ones. That's simply not true, I gave a detailed breakdown of all the goals conceded in those 9 games weeks ago. Very few were defensive errors, it's just the same old lazy argument with absolutely no relation to the facts. Please feel free to point out the defensive errors, if memory serves me right there was 1-2, plus the two howlers from Ederson at Trafford which are goalkeeping errors.If we go with what we have got then We won’t win the title . Can understand your feelings on stones but he has been absolutely shocking this season and he wasn’t great last season . We cannot go into a new season with John stones still at the back
It's a shame, before the injury in the fall of 2018 he was really good. Havent seen that side of him after that :/

Not joking at all. If the right player isn't available for the right price, we go with what we have got already. It's been the way for a number of years (Jorginho, Maguire, Laporte 1st time, Sanchez) and I don't see any reason to make me think things will change now.

Not the slighest. It’s like saying CR7 in his prime coming to City wouldn’t be better than Mahrez until we see him kick the ball for us. Of course he would be better. Nathan Aké would never have been brought in if Pep didn’t think he was an obvious upgrade to Stones and Otamendi.
Very weird argument. It’s not that hard to realize talent before the player actually put on the jersey.

Aké is not enough. Kompany left last season and I still believe the club is looking at a proper replacement for him – a world class defender and leader, someone like Koulibaly. I see Aké as Stones replacement considering the homegrown quota. But now that Garcia wants out, maybe the dynamics changed a bit. But I’m 100% sure another CB is on his way in. Otamendi and Stones are done, they are not good enough anymore.
