Kalidou Koulibaly

100M is not enough for Haland. It'll probably be enough for Martínez though.
But I'd rather spend those 100M on a 50M LB and a 50M DM.
We have Agüero and Jesus. Next season, when Kun leaves, we can buy a striker.

A clause of €60m will come into play next season for Håland. The issue is his agent, Raiola. That’s another 30-40m in agent fees. We all know he’ll be asking for the earth when the time comes. Plus, I don’t believe Raiola and City have the best of relationship,!

Guess its close, read quiet a few reports from morning in twitter, saying it is close

63M+7M in add-ons depending on our performance this season, right?
The things I've read are quite contradictory but this would be a fair deal I think.

Oh, I had no idea about that clause! Yeah, I'd expect Raiola would demand at least the 60M for himself.
I don't think Raiola has a good relationship with any clubs.
I think the only Man City player that's represented by Raiola is Philippe Sandler if I'm not mistaken.

exactly. In all honesty I wouldn’t be against a CB talent like Upamecano but the problem with those types is they will take at least a year to adapt to Pep and the Premier league, maybe even 2 years.

That means we waste Agüero’s last year, De Bruyne’s prime years, and Pep’s final years at the club probably.

we need someone to come in, and be ready to play and play well immediately. Koulibaly is someone who offers that, after years of CL football and years of playing a similar system under Sarri.

At CB, we need an immediate impact not a talent like Stones was that may or may not reach his potential. If that means we have to pay £20m more so be it.

One of the things no one has mentioned in this thread is that Upamecano has only every played in a back 3.

In the few games where Nagelsmann tried a back 4, he was a bit of a disaster.

Now that doesn't mean he'll never be good in a back 4, but he clearly needs to learn to play the different position, and we don't have time to be pissing about with that.

I’m waiting for the day something is done about these agents. Really. A player employs the services of an agent but somehow the club pay the agent hired by someone else. Who the hell made it up? Till this day, I don’t get it.

Dortmund probably hate his guts the most because of that clause. Imagine losing him for that after another stunning season.

Yes he is, but Raiola is also the agent for some of the best young players in the Netherlands, including two fine young strikers. If we can hold our nose to get a deal with Napoli, we can do the same to sign a striker from his stable.

Same here. It got to a point where some agents basically decide who wins the league. Check what Jorge Mendes has been doing with Benfica (Portuguese League) and Wolves (Championship) for the past 10 years and you'll understand what I'm saying.

Can see him doing this to Stones / Garcia (if he stays)

No issue regarding Nico.... He would have dived already! :)

Are you referring to Boadu and Malen? Yeah, they're good. Also Gravenberch and Stengs.

He’s hoovered up the best young Dutch kids and will continue to do so; they can see he gets people such as de Jong and de Ligt great deals at big clubs, so they’ll naturally trust him. Personally, I’d much rather take a punt on Boadu or Malen as I see them as a better fit to our style. But we need to deal with everyone to do so.

Pfft, he'd be given at least 3 days in training to get used to it

Yea, that’s what I was getting at. New formation/system, new league, new tactics, Etc all too much for a 21 year old. He will need more time to adapt, probably even more than a year.

Koulibaly is the one available CB I would expect to slot right in. All other alternatives mentioned on the forum like Diego Carlos, Soyuncu, Skriniar, R.Diaz play a different style of football. I expect all of these would need a season to adapt. Of course there is the rarity like Laporte who can slot right in from a different league although being coached by Biesla did help.

I thought only de Ligt was his. Is De Jong also Riola's? Or was he just mediator in his transfer?

I guess as we move along a relationship with Raiola may be essential. His power in the industry is only growing and like it or not he has managed to get all his clients very good deals. Clubs may not like him but players are lining for him especially young players. I am still an ardent believer of avoiding this pisstaker but is the situation becoming untenable now?

dont know why but find it extremely funny that apart from De Ligt Maguire and Koulibaly our highly paid scouts cannot come up with anyone else es potential good CB for us.

And funny thing is anyone from this forum cold come up with these names even tho not being top scouts.

And of course they even only come up with these players when they already has a cost of 70-80--90-100m pounds and not when they would be available for much less 1-2-3 years before.

Koulibaly for example signed for Napoli in 2014 summer for 6.5m pounds.

We signed Mangala 2014 summer for 42m pounds.
Was the Koulibaly of 2014 good enough to go straight into our team, and be dependable ?

Any purchase of this guy could be as glorious as any mistake we've ever made in the transfer market. It's Mangala with bells and whistles on and will be this season's example of spunking more money on a problem that can only be rectified by coaching. We were ready to buy Maguire but ultimately couldn't afford him and he'd have solved nothing anyway because just buying pricey defenders and throwing them out in any order from week to week is a disaster. Defence is the one area where you need coherent play and it's the most vital area on any team as it's far easier to leak a goal by poor play than it is score a goal with good play.

Our yearly policy of buying pricey defenders, unproven in our league is akin to throwing great food at a shit chef and wondering why what he produces makes you puke! With a properly coached Laporte, Stones, Ake and Harwood Bellis/Adarabioyo we have ample tall and physical defenders. What we don't appear to have is anyone who can coach them, and until we sort that then NOTHING will change in our defensive capability.
