The centre backs are a bunch of dicks, these days, playing Russian Roulette with it. Last one, Walker was stood directly in front of them, clearly not about to take part in any offside trap, but the pillocks decided to do it anyway, whilst looking at his back. Morons.
Then Garcia ran forward ten yards to stand in a line, in his own fucking half.

My idea would be to get someone on the rise, someone who is capable of doing a job right from the start but is capable of improving and developing into an even better player long term (like we do with everybody else).
The older a player is, the more cautious we should be with the money as players have a limited shelf life and in Koulibaly's case is probably finished in 4-5 years when his contract expires. A younger player can still move with a year left for a very agreeable fee, to allow you to rebuild again (e.g. Sane).
But chances are, such a player will cost more than Koulibaly & all of the obvious candidates are looking as if they are no certainly of even holding down a place in the team.
With Koulibably in place, we could (& should imo) find someone earlier in their career & bring them through, evrn someone at the club, if possible.

I'm with you here. All well and good planning ahead but you need to plan for today too.
I'm always in favour of planning ahead, but I'm struggling to see what our better options are for next season or the one after.
