Kalvin Phillips

He was a bit crap and should have got sent off. Rice can play the holding position on his own, he's more than good enough to do that. England should be ditching the likes of Phillips and Gallagher and playing Maddison or Grealish instead from the start. We have the best attack in the world with a ridiculous amount of depth. Play to our strengths.
I agree with every word....but if the manager insists on playing a premier league reserve centre back I can see his logic in putting as many holding players as possible in to protect him ; )

He was told to leave in Summer
Didn't leave there were offers likely and we could have recouped outlr fee. Now we will sell at £10 discount!?

Blame whoever wanted him at city and not kalvin himself, nobody given the chance he was, to stay in england and play for pep, turns it down tbf

Like a lot of other Blues I actually thought for the price he was a decent signing. An England international, he was solid enough, had the odd decent long range pass in his locker and had room to improve. Sadly he's been a disaster to say the least. I've no idea whether it was his injury but he's gone backwards for sure. Both parties need to move on as quickly as possible.

I am fed up with hearing about Phillips, he was signed as cover for Rodri, but spent most of last season injured. He is a decent player but hasn’t had much chance to get involved. So after a slightly underwhelming performance for England, many City fans seem to want to get rid, so why are other clubs queueing up to buy him? If he leaves in January, we will know that Pep doesn’t see him as a prospect, but don’t fuel the rumours, he still has time to come good for us.

We should of heeded the biggest warning sign there was on the lad.
Gary Neville said he was England's best midfielder the season before we bought him.
Gary Neville who was once manager of Valencia ffs.
But seriously I feel for the lad and when he moves on I'll wish him to succeed in his career no matter where he goes

There is an Athletic article about England today which suggested its injuries that have prevented him playing for City. I know that was the case initially but it was weird there was no reference of skill level in the City context:

Realistically, the question should not be ifSouthgate ought to make this setup his plan A for next summer’s European Championship, but rather who partners Rice in this formation.

Phillips has been his first choice, but his injury record is poor, contributing to his limited time on the pitch. He has played just 26 times for Manchester City since joining before the start of last season, and those appearances only add up to 760 minutes — the equivalent of under nine 90-minute games. Only five of the 26 have been starts.

Southgate said that England “can’t carry players” in big games, and Phillips was the weakest of the midfield three on Tuesday. Inside a minute, he clattered Di Lorenzo with a high foot, was yellow-carded in the ninth minute for a clumsy tactical foul and was fortunate to not be sent off in the second half.
