Karim Rekik

I watched it and he did pretty well, but PSV were so open it was often last ditch stuff. The starting leftback was fucking woeful as well, repeatedly letting his winger just spin in behind him, but they looked a much better defensive unit when they subbed him off for someone semi-competent. They had to weather a storm for the last 15 minutes or so and did so pretty well. The Sky commentator seemed to think he got away with a penalty, despite it looking a lot like he got the ball cleanly

I knew somebody would do this. Came on just to see if it would happen.

He did pretty well !!?? All 4 defenders were absolute dogshit!

I watched every minute of it.

The above comment which he looked 'shakey' is telling it as it is & he continued like that until about 65 mins where he had a couple of decent interceptions then became dogshit again. He failed to win one challenged header in the whole 90 mins (a near post clearence & few fee headers being his only successes, he fucked up every single one when challenged ) every single time anyone ran at him, they went past him as if he wasn't there, without exception. After a yellow card for a quite pathetic body check, he was very lucky not to be red carded, once for kicking the ball away after another crappy challenge, & once when he was given the benefit of the doubt after sticking his foot in & probably not touching the ball in the box, which would have been a straight red.

He was out of position for pretty much the whole 90 mins, dashing out too late to make interceptions, failing to spot people running behind him, marking areas where there was no danger & missing the danger areas. And his passing was often under or overhit & occasionally straight to the opponent.

Why is such an absolute joke of a cb in the team at the top of the league ? Because the rest of the defenders on the pitch were as bad & in the case of Ajax's centre backs, even fucking worse!!

And the cbs in the last game were also worse than him & Bruma as well!

The defending is well below championship standard, so any achievements by strikers should be treated with scepticism.

Wait a minute, do you not rate Rekik? You should of said something sooner. Your never ending hatred of him is truly tedious. We get it, you don't think he's very good, feel free to stop trying to ram your opinion down everyones throat. Not a single positive thing is allowed to be said about him without you popping up to furiously disagree. It's beyond an obsession. I'm guessing the only reason you watched the game yesterday was to look for mistakes by Rekik so you could come on here and write another diatribe about him? Give it a fucking rest you miserable bastard.

About time somebody said that. Makes me wonder if during his time in Manchester Rekik shagged Neville Kneville's wife/daughter/neice/mother/grannie.

Belive me, it's been said numerous times.

But.. Rekik is shit though? He actually is and why do people find that so hard to comprehend?

I'd love nothing more for him to be great but he's really naff sadly and he *is* playing in a micky mouse league whether you want to admit it or not.

Some incredibly blue-tinged specs on some of the people in this thread. He was really poor during the pre-season games and has looked it repeatedly for PSV.

Indeed it has but the difference is, IF Rekik actually has a fucking GOOD game, I will admit it rather than misleasding people about it like some on here are doing. And it's Nastasic I'm obsessed with if you ask around. I used to be obsessed with Kit Symons, David Brightwell, Steve Redmond, Savic etc.

Basically anyone who is shit & wears a City shirt.

I watch & record everything I can involving all City loanees. Because I am passionate about the future of the academy. Most of our loanees have been doing fair to good & occasional moments of excellence. Rekik has been average to shite pretty much every time I've seen him play at any level, for several years.

This forum is surely about honestly evaluating players & being truthful about their performances, not bullshitting about them.

If he ever plays a great game, I will be on here saying so & happy to do so. Right now, describing Rekik's last two performances as 'average' would be an outrageous exaggeration.

Since when did this become the joke thread?

Well I figured that was supposed to be the idea. You watch a player & talk about what he does well, average or poorly.

If a player drops loads of bollocks, misses headers, charges out of position, gets done for pace, skinned alive one v one & makes several poor passes/clearences I would expect that is what someone would report to the forum. Not pretend it didn't happen.

I don't think there can ever be an honest examination about Man City's players on a Man City forum. Prejudices will always be there.

Case in point - if honest evaluation was the norm the Dzeko thread would have barely been more than 10 pages long.

Or the change in opinion on the Benatia thread. When he was linked to us was a world beater. When we signed Mangala and he was then linked to the rags it was "never liked him anyway"...

Thought Rekik looked very shaky in pre season, perhaps to do with the partners he had and not being too familiar but I thought he got drawn to the ball far too often and he doesnt really have the pace to do that which makes him quite a danger to have in a CB position. Must be learning too much from Bruma

A shame that he went back to PSV on loan as he really could have done with testing himself at a higher level than dutch football (no offence to the dutch league) either over here or in Spain/Germany. I cant help but think the next 2 years are his key ones and with a full season of first team football under his belt I would have thought the demand for him from these 3 leagues would have been high

Can't help but think he's going to struggle to meet his potential.

He really did have potential as well.

The last two games I've seen, the standard of defending from both sides has been almost comical. If he was playing for Ajax, I think he would have actually been in a worse back 4 on the day than PSV. He really should have tried Italy as he had offers apparently.

Well, he had a higher rating than Daley Blind on WhoScored, who is linked with a £17m move to United. :-)

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/825539/Live" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/825539/Live</a>

And Ajax's 22yo defender Veltman was linked with Spurs and Arsenal this summer.

I'm amazed there is so much debate over a 19 year old defender to be honest. If he hadn't shown early potential, he'd be largely ignored and allowed to develop out on loan without all this arguing. Has any renowned defender ever peaked before the age of 26? Keep him under contract and see how he does over the next few years, unless he pushes for an exit, then try and get some decent money.

My beef with it is people bullshitting. He hasn't done anything to deserve the rep he's been given & people keep coming on just basically making shit up about his performances. I'm perfectly happy to wait & see what happens with him

Daley Blind did some ok stuff on the ball (& some not) but some of his defending was absolutely abominable. It could well be that Rekik had a better game than him. Bruma was the best defender on the pitch imo. But that's like saying John Sergeant is a better dancer than Anne Widdecombe.

Lovren was miles better than any of them on Monday, put it that way.

It's worth noting Rekik is about 5-7 years away from being at his peak.

He's a great prospect.

I don't think you can really wait until someone is 25 to see if they're good or not though... that's a lot of waiting. If that's the case we should all go Smalling, Jones and Cleverley a rest.

A good player should start to show signs of promise at 19ish and then as a potential first team talent around the age of 20/21 before being a starter by 22 really. Rekik's fallen well behind at the moment as his performances in what is a very poor league comparatively are bang average.

Yes, not seen it though.

They kept a clean sheet though.

Cheers Nev.I'm still thinking this loan is pretty much a waste of time though, its not progression in my opinion......and that's what was required.
