Keir Starmer

He has to learn from Kinnock.

He thought he'd pissed the GE and was so cocky the voters went Tory to slap him down.

I still expect a minority Tory victory or a hung parliament where the yellow Tories will rescue their blue colleagues.

A minority Tory victory is in the realms of possibility once the campaign machines swing into action. We won’t know what either party’s policy plans look like until then so who knows…

But there is no way in my opinion we will see another LibDem-Tory coalition in our lifetime. They got absolutely decimated for it in 2015, it would be the most stupid imaginable form of electoral suicide. It was stupid the first time, but to do it twice would be Keystone Cops stuff.

The only way it might be possible is if LibDems demand PR in return (not a referendum on PR like last time). Which the Tories will never allow.

Agree. The lib dems were virtually destroyed by that coalition. Most lib dems now are far more progressive than the yellow tory tag suggests. Their voters far more likely to be tactical anti tory types who will vote to gtto in a ge.

I would like them to hold Starmers feet to fire over changing the voting system as deal breaker.

Does he crave being PM so much he'd accept it?

I get the yellow Tory label but not in reference to today’s Tories who have gone off the deep-end, they couldn’t be more different.

Today’s LibDems are probably the closest party to the old small c Conservatives of the 80s, 90s and 00s before they went all-out swivel-eyed xenophobia. They’re fiscally conservative, socially progressive, pro-European - which is all at odds with today’s Conservative Party. In today’s landscape that does actually give them a distinct identity that they’ve never had before. If you call them yellow Tory it’s because they’re like John Major-lite with a progressive bent.

That is what I was getting at. A current Lib Dem is very far off what the current tories are.

Even still its predicted Labour will be 28 seats short of a majority at the next GE.
He'll probably end up in coalition with the lib Dems, who sadly showed themselves up as the vacuous tory-lite fannies they are last time they got a sniff of power.
If anybody is expecting anything further left than the Cameron govt from Starmer they are being naive.

Surprised he didn't call for tougher measures tbh

All is not lost however Supercranski is threatening to unleash her powerful army of centrist dads .... once they've queued up to get their wallets back ;-)

Here’s a question, and I support those who want to protest, but how would you find it when the right to protest impacts your life, including your job?
