My dear fellow blues, as the weekend draws on and the curtain comes up on a new football season, can I please ask you all to keep in your thoughts and prayers one of my dearest and longest lifelong friends and my blue brother Kevin Maclean who is sadly nearing the end of his life following a brave battle against that horrible scourge of cancer.

Kevin was my gaffer when I was a kid at the Daily Express over 45 years ago when I first met him and we’ve been great friends ever since. I am godfather to his son David seen here with him in the photo. They both sit in the third tier at the Etihad and are known by many fellow blues.

A lifelong blue we have travelled the length and breath of the country together watching our beloved blues and following England through the eighties and early 90’s.

Kevin has watched our blues literally all is life, following City and England across the globe. Kevin attended the ECWF, the Champions League Final two years ago, amongst many other finals and was at the 1970 World Cup and Final in Mexico staying at the same hotel as the England team.

To say I am absolutely heartbroken and devastated is an understatement he is only 74 and such a wonderful and beautiful person.

So when I go to Leicester tomorrow I will carry him in my heart and his picture on my phone and I know he will be there with me and all my travelling blue compatriots.

As the saying goes ‘City till we die and beyond into paradise’…

Kevin passed away peacefully on Saturday 30th July with his loving wife and son and family members.

May he rest in the eternal peace of blue paradise.

Kevin Maclean, the man, the legend, my friend. R.I.P.

What an incredibly moving post.

Such amazing words, I can’t image how hard that was to write.

Your friend has certainly see many highs and lows over the years.

Thoughts are with you and Kevin’s family at this time
