I can never understand how and why some parents let their kids go and do whatever they want, wherever they want til whatever time they want (it seems).

I see quite a lot of kids 10 upwards acting like they're feral in gangs, smoking, being nuisance and doing dumb shit involving trams and tram lines.

Whilst I'm not accusing the parents involved here as in the above, it does make me wonder if they knew their kids were doing dangerous things in this weather...

I hope their kids pull through, especially this close to Christmas.

I did wonder about that when I saw the story, were these kids with adults who should have known better or were they kids being kids. I was far from being "feral" when I was that sort of age but do remember having the ability to roam and getting into potentially dangerous situations on building sites and the like. With my own kids I was reluctant to let them off the leash, there is a line between being overprotective and not giving a shit. Agree, you see a lot of kids roaming where you wonder if the parents know or care what they are up to.

Tragic.

Were there parents with them or had they just gone off on their own?

I have a 9 year-old lad who lives near castlefield and the canal. There is absolutely no way me or his mum would ever let him go there without supervision from us and there's no way I would let a 10 or 11 year old supervise him

Heartbreaking this, I always remember being criticised by some people for being too protective of mine, even my kids themselves and their Mother at times, yet on a few occasions especially one particular time , if I hadn’t, I’d have been mourning three dead children myself without a shadow of a doubt, oddly, about my own kids, once they had their own, they looked at me and said “Dad, I get it now, I get YOU now” !

So in many ways, I get what you mean Bigga, don’t think life was any safer when I was a kid, but I often look back and actually think “you’re one lucky fucker” when I think of some of the things we did, maybe they just took their eye off the ball, as is often the case, maybe they were the type of parents who put too much trust in them, sadly, either way, they’ll have to live through the hell of losing a child, which is probably the most horrible thing I could imagine.

RIP little un’s.

Absolutely tragic, even more so knowing the parents will have bought Christmas presents etc. for what they thought would be a happy occasion in a couple of weeks time

Wouldn’t be surprised if there are kids from same family

You think you're immortal when you're a kid. When I look back to what I managed to do as a kid aged 8 (swimming in a local stream with friends), I can obviously see now how dangerous that was. My parents didn't have a clue, and I was adept at lying about where I had been.

Absolutely tragedy, if mine ever want to do things without me or the wife there I always think could there be a “if only” moment ? If so I don’t let them overprotective probably but it’s the way it is.
Those poor children it’s heartbreaking unbelievably sad.
