Kolo Toure

He is a slight improvement, i would rather we got our other two targets, (Lescott and Terry) and if they failed go for Toure.

The strategy should be go for all three at the same time therefore who ever we get does not feel second best

and you never know we could get all three

I agree with the first bit, and the second bit is true, but what would the point be? I know its to build a squad rather than a team, but Onuha, and if needed Kompany, is a decent Centre Back. And i dont really rate Toure too much, but that's just my opinion.

First things first. Stop suggesting foreign players. We're not going to be bringing in any players from foreign leagues, Hughes needs a top 6 finish at least and is only going to bring in players that are premiership experienced and can hit the ground running, needing little or no time to gel as a unit.

He's also going to want to bring in players better then what we already have, with top 6 experience from the teams we're directly competing with for the European places.

That leaves us with basically:
Vidic
Ferdinand
Carvalho
Terry
Skrtel
Agger
Lescott
Jagielka
Toure
Gallas
Upson

Vidic and Ferdinand wouldn't come. Agger just signed a 4 year deal. Jagielka isn't that much better then what we've got and is hurt. Carvalho is getting very old and we're in for Terry. Gallas is a troublemaker, not a Hughes type player. Upson isn't that much better then what we've got, he's probably a last resort.

Who does that leave us with?

Basically leaves us with the 3 guys we're reportedly going for. It's not rocket science. You can talk up Bruno Alves (who by the way looks extremely average the few times I've seen him) and other guys outside the PL, who I'm sure are quality players, but they're all too much of a gamble for Hughes to take right now.

Correct. There are very few English based defenders which are available, and would improve City's team. Which is why Hughes may either have to go abroad

sorry if posted, but Sunday Times, this morning claims Kolo's agreed personal terms :D
edit;
has been posted!

we wont go abroad as much as i would love to see bruno alves at city cos when ive see him he looks quality, but there will be 2 off the following 4 players at city next year:

john Terry
joleon lescott
kolo toure
matt upson

i think any off the first 3 would be a bigg improvement but upson is overated and ned kompany and dunne are better on there day

Hangeland is better than most on your list.

Except they've all done the business over more than one season, whereas Brede still has plenty to prove in respect to his longevity.

It may still be worth considering him though. He's had a really good eighteen months and would be ideal for when we play the big physical teams that we traditionally struggle against.
