Agree 100% with this. He should have rested players (hardly hindsight when people were saying it before the game) - instead he picks another unbalanced, uninspiring team. Not involving Kelechi was another negative decision, and what is going on with Sterling (probably MoTM in the first leg) - is MP trying to destroy his confidence completely?
I think we will limp into the top 4, but it will be despite MP, not because of him. Really can't wait to see the back of him now.
Sorry but I think Pellegrini picked a team to do a job tonight and that job was to see the tie out. You're the second person tonight I've heard question why Sterling wasn't involved, the other was some prick on Talksport. Sterling wasn't involved because he can't/doesn't offer what Navas does defensively. He may well have featured earlier if both Kompany and Otamendi hadn't been forced off but once that happened Pellegrini had to delay his subs in case we went down to 10 men somehow. I didn't see anything 'unbalanced' about the team tonight, Sterling did his job in the first leg, tonight it was Navas's turn, because tonight was about retaining possession, closing down, denying space and frustrating the opposition. It wasn't pretty to watch and it wasn't enjoyable, but it was far more enjoyable see us go through to the quarter finals by being pragmatic than it would have been seeing us cling on at 2 nil down for the last ten minutes simply because we tried to win a game that was already won. Yaya was immense btw.
