Vincent Kompany has fired a warning to Manchester City’s Premier League title rivals, revealing he believes there is more still to come from striker Sergio Aguero.
Aguero has made a flying start to his maiden season in English football, scoring 13 goals in his first 19 appearances as City have made the best ever start to a Premier League campaign.
But Kompany feels that, much like fellow frontmen Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko, Aguero’s form may hit new heights next term as he becomes further adjusted to his new team and surroundings.
"If you look at what has happened naturally for all the strikers here, we have only seen the best of Mario this year, and only seen the best of Edin this year," he told reporters.
"It's the same with David Silva, so it might be next year that we see the real Sergio. Maybe he has got another level in him.
"That's a great prospect for us, that players like Samir [Nasri], Sergio and Gael [Clichy], who are in their first year at this club and even though they have been performing exceptionally well, all still have another level to go to.
"That's the great thing about this team."
Kompany also revealed Aguero’s incredible start is down in no small part to the huge effort the Argentine has made to settle quickly in England.
"Sergio makes a massive effort to come to terms with the language and it's great to see when a player makes that effort,” he added.
"English is the language everyone understands and it makes things so much easier for the team.
“Sergio is not only a great player - he's also a great guy."
