You would be able to understand everything after 18 months and be at conversational level within 2 years. After 8 years you would definitely be a fluent speaker given the above conditions are maintained. The problem Kun has had is that his mates are all Spanish speakers and so away from football (and much of the time in the club) he only has to speak Spanish.
