Kyle Walker : 2018/19 performances

Key thing here is why is he making so many recurring errors and what's Pep doing to try and sort this?
Walker is fast becoming a liability.

He's out of form but we shouldn't go over the top, on his day he's very good, recovers things most can't with his pace and strength, he also has the opposition scrambling when going the other way.

Maybe Danilo isn't fit or looks even worse in training, if we can see Walker's off it Pep will too.

He’s genuinely is starting to worry me. Though he played ok against Arsenal without doing anything exceptional but at times tonight he was back to his worse.
Needs to get a grip because we can’t afford many more of his fuck ups.

Apart from that brainfart pass in the second half, thought he had a good game. But he has struggled this season and desperately needs a Summer break to recharge his batteries

Worst thing about him tonight was he just blamed everyone else for his own errors. He berated Stones for some reason after he’d fucked up a header in the first half. I hope Danilo plays against Chelsea.

I don’t think walker has been as bad as some make out the last couple of games, yes he went through a poor spell around Christmas, but he’s playing his way back into form again,we should be getting behind all the players regardless...

He is dropping clangers in every game he plays , luckily the opposition are not punishing his mistakes , Danilo is the player in form and should start against Chelsea , becasue if Walker gives Hazard a gift he will take it.

It's like having Micah back!

Danilo was awful against Newcastle but he couldn't be any worse than Walker has been recently.

He also gets beat for pace about once a game now which is new.

One mistake aside I thought he was fine. Recovered in the last game as well.

Sometimes people just need to drop the agenda

It was the break that wasn’t that killed me.

You know the one where the ball fell to him from an Everton corner and he, one of our fastest players, began to race forward with 4 team members running into space to his left?

It was there, on a plate to take an opportunity. He stalled and passed back.

It’s the same every game. It’s why we lost at Newcastle- not because LB was idiotic but -because our RB chokes any forward momentum every time.

We win inspite of him.

Other than that he’s a fine lad :-)

Said this last week and took pelters. He is so risk averse at going fwd that he offers next to nothing in that regard. Add that to his shaky defensive play of late and we have a problem brewing

I think he is on his way back to form. He's had two much better games on the run

He is very reluctant to pass with his left foot and he is now regularly being forced on to it. It causes him a lot of anxiety and is something he needs to work on intensively to help him improve. I suspect it's more mental than physical.

Honestly, I think you're misreading. We play safe passes, which is why we play 800+ passes a game. The risky passes are reserved for KDB/Silvas. Walker isn't a guy who is going to play a risky forward pass. In that situation, passing sideways and keeping the ball was the better option than potentially losing the ball.

He was better last night but he’s our most error-prone first team defender by some margin.

I still don’t believe there’s a big drop in quality (if any) when Danilo plays at right back. He’s certainly better with the ball at his feet.

Walker's problem is his predictability in his passing. nearly 100% of his passes are either a simple pass to the midfield forward, or safely back to the CB. On top of that, he is certain to get the simple pass wrong at least once in the game. Most obvious today was the poor backpass as mentioned, but also there was a moment in the game where fernandinho was under pressure, passed to walker, only for walker to pass it straight back. Almost like the ball is a hot potato wherein he is afraid to take responsibility/initiative.

One might think he does this since he might be self aware of his own shortcomings and limited technical ability, but he often has the nerve to scream a bollocking at other players for a missplaced pass or if it wasn't where he demanded. Even if he may be fatigued as is the common excuse of his blind fans, he still shows no desire to make any positive movement to get into a good forward position. Too predictable. Sadly he is becoming a passenger in his own defence. Quite literally just the ball recycler for stones/otamendi or fernandinho/sterling.

Stones had some choice words with him a couple of times when he was defending nothing and no one and the ball was played in behind him. After a couple of times, Stones stopped saying anything and just shook his head!

We are witnessing some of the best football ever seen anywhere and to complain that our right back (yes, right back!) isn’t a technically good enough ball player for this team is such luxury that I almost feel bad saying it! However, he is our least gifted player and, at times, it shows in ways that could be very damaging.

If he was an intelligent player, it might hide some of his technical deficiencies, but he also appears to be the least intelligent player in the team, which only magnifies his problems.

As I said, he is still a regular 6 or 7, but in this team, that’s below par!! We are lucky to be watching such a brilliant team!
