Walker was unique in what he brought to the team from 2017-19, he likes to play in last line of defence and play as a quasi CB and sweeper, physically very strong , defend long balls and presence in the box defensively, these attributes were very useful especially considering that we had center back paring of stones and otamendi and fernandinho in front of the defence who were weak in those aspects.

The tradeoff to be made with walker is he can't play higher up the pitch(not on the last line of defence)
-doesn't like to defend with player in space behind him and as wing back he can't provide the attacking width a conventional full back is req. to do today.Still the even with the tradeoffs to be made, it was a net positive. But question to be asked is kyle is as effective and contribution wise still a net positive.

Trade Offs
- Walker can't play out wide attacking wise so can't play with two left footed players on the right like mahrez with foden or bernardo with foden. So either KDB is forced to play as a half winger and has to provide the width or sterling has to play.

-defensively can't play as a wing back with a player in space behind, happens yesterday where he pace away a pen, has happened previously too - vs leicester and vs lyon in the quater finals.

-Walker used to useful with his physicality and pace esp. when we played with stones, otamendi and ferna but now his qualities which made him unique are redundant with rodri, dias and laporte and ake, all good on the ball if not better than walker and all physically strong and have pace.

-Another aspect is our build up play- pep like to play a back 4 but build up using a back 3 so its either one of the full backs dropping or the no6 dropping. Here is where walker and rodri when playing together
causes a problem - both want to drop and play in last line on defence and both players don't like playing high and wide.

Bottom line,Kyle is 30 so unfortunately, would be foolish to expect him to get better but still one of the most consistent players we have.
Best scenario, don't play rodri and kyle together if possible and play sterling on the right to provide width to help walker.

Won’t happen but he should retire from international football - would give him another 2-3 years at the top

We need to keep pushing the media narrative that Reece James and Lamptey are better options. The more players we can keep away from internationals the better.

He's given away the same penalty 3 times this season and we're 1 game into November.

At 30 years old, you do have to wonder how man times he needs to make the same mistake before he learns?

He won't. Same problem as Otamendi in that neither had much going on between their ears and both oversetimate their ability to make a challenge in difficult situations.

Luckily, Walker's got far more strings to his bow than Otamendi and the pros far outweigh the cons. Like I said, he won't learn and it won't be the last time it costs us but it is what it is.

Listening to the ManCity Show Pod and some of the comments reflect strong signs of selective memory and reasoning.

One commentor said that this was a reversion back to his normal self (a later commentor pointed out stats that show how few pens Walker has given in contrast).

The initial person said it is "baffling how you can be so good for the rest of the season and become awful again."

Laporte...against Liverpool (or was it Spurs or both games)?????

Also, after the mistake I thought he did quite well against Mane.

There were also references to what Spurs fans said YEARS ago.

This is not the same player. Yes, he has flaws and can make a mistake, but he's improved his decision making a lot since joining us.

One game or one moment should not throw away all of the other performances unless you're already set out to believe what you believe.

Defenders at times make mistakes - no one is perfect. Walker made an unfortunate mistake against Liverpool - these things happen.

Still, our defense was very solid - limiting Liverpool to one goal - and on offense, we would have won all three points given this performance - KDB's penalty miss... that's not going to happen very often.
