Kylian Mbappe

Never in a million years should any sane club spend £100m+ on an 18 year old with barely a season under his belt. The whole "he's gonna be the greatest playa eva! That price will look small when you think he'll be great for 15 years" bullshit gets dragged out whenever anyone suggests paying massively over the odds for a young player. They don't all make it, in fact, most of them don't. Gabriel Jesus has just as much chance and he cost a fraction of that, same for Dembele at Dortmund. You don't pay a world record fee for raw potential, it's madness.

On that basis, I imagine a £120m move to the rags is on the cards, so he can join Rashford and Martial, last years Mbappe

Monaco a team in the quarter finals of the CL and likely to win the French league will not sell 5 players from their starting 11. There is about a 0% chance of this happening.
Course they will. That's their business model as they have about seven fans.

1 season of playing like a world class players and media and fabs talking about 50 60 70 and even 100m is ridicules! Lets see how he does next season.

Exactly. Even if he had a world class season again next year his cost can't run much higher than the figures already being mentioned, which tells you they're too high. If anybody pays them kind of sums they've run out of ideas and have taken a big punt. Jesus cost £27m and he's supposed to be one of the best talents in Brazil, £70m for this guy would be stupidity.

You can see his stats aren't sustainable too, I read he has a 35% conversion rate - much like Rashford and Nacho last year. You just can't continue that kind of scoring rate. He's got so far to go to become a £70m player it's not even worth being involved in discussions at that price.

They are not looking to make money as a club, they're looking to be successful. They had to go about it a different way to PSG etc. so they said to the young kids they bought that they'd sell them on after a few years and Monaco could be a stepping stone.

Now they are competing well in the CL and probably going to win the French title, I expect there will be a shift. They will be able to keep hold of their young players longer and offer them titles and more money. If you're winning things and going deep in the Champions League then what are you a stepping stone to? The 5/6 clubs in the world above them?

If you actually look at who they've sold as well - it's not much to suggest they'll sell Mbappé. Kondogbia, Martial, Kurzawa and Carrasco in the last 3 years. I'm not sure any of them would get into the team if they came back tomorrow.

They've generally held onto their best players for longer, and M'bappé will be told it's unwise to move before a world cup year, that he needs to keep his momentum going and there's merit to that. Doesn't sound like he's desperate to leave either.

Time will tell.

Personally I think he'll go elsewhere because of our very good, also very young forwards; however, can you imagine playing one of the smaller PL sides and playing a front four of:

Jesus Mbappe
Sane Sterling

The opposing defense wouldn't have enough legs

That's not up for debate. My son IS the best talent talent in brazil.

As far as the price goes. Would you pay 70m for Leroy right now? What about 60 for GJ? I would for both and Mbappe has a year of good results under his belt in a decent league. He has results and he passes the eye test. Also, you should factor in if Pep wants him. If he does. Do it.

I think some of us need to accept we might still miss out on him even if we make an offer, how much do some believe we can afford to spend in the summer anyway? Personally I think Pep is all too aware of the perception City has and how he will be criticised if he does go out and start breaking transfer records, he wants success here but he wants to achieve things in the right way. He's no fan of the press but he hears what they say, he wants to beat them, to prove them wrong. It would go against any good he does or any success if he went out spending 100s of millions on players, we spent great last summer and they still criticised us, they are already totting up what he's spent on who.

Yes Pep was interested last summer as we was with Jesus from the start, it was not a case of Jesus was second choice whoever's saying that is pulling it out of their arse sorry. Jesus was already approaching superstar status we got there just in time before prices went to silly money, it would have been similar had Monaco accepted our offer for Mbappé. Also Pep wont be desperate about any one player he'd rather have a team of versatile players who can do what's needed in the system, from what we've heard he'd take much more pride in taking someone from our own academy and turning him into a superstar than one from Monaco for silly money. Yes he's shown potential but not enough to risk FFP sanctions or going into next season without having adequately strengthened the areas of the pitch that need it. He might not get anywhere near the Ballon d'Or(he's not currently anywhere near it) nobody has a crystal ball, everyone likes to think they can predict these things, it's easy to spot talent, there's much more to it than that. Mbappé is looking like a goalscorer, not someone who you build the team around in a system like ours but someone who sticks them away, the goals will come for Sané and Sterling, Jesus will be banging them in for fun when he comes back... he could easily turn out to be a much better player than Mbappé I don't see why everyone is panicking so much on this one.

What we should be hoping for is Monaco to have a good season, win the title, Mbappé stays another season... has his first struggle for form so people can come back down to earth and realise he's just 18 starting out his career and then we can start negotiating next summer.
