La Rochelle - France

i once started talking to a french guy outside a club while waiting for friends. i asked where was he from? he said west of france!... so i ask brest? he says no....i say Bordeaux ? he says near there! then i ask la rochelle? he got really freaked out and went away...???

sorry EDLS... don t have anything on it...and highjacking the thread ;)

Not been to La Rochelle but was in St Jean Du Monts and had a great time, long smooth sandy beaches, crepes, great croissants, and some of the campsites are way above what we are used to.
I also have an uncle that lives in this region of france, and he loves it.

Nice relaxing place. Sat in one one of the bars overlooking the harbour as the sun goes down bliss... if you walk around the market in the evening just keep an eye above you... the birds have a habit of shitting on you !! No lie !

if you get any any transport try a trip further afield to Saintes, a lovely old roman town, then a bit further is Cognac,, the name says it all.

A bit closer in is Royan, Rochfort, both worth a visit....enjoy..Viva la France.

Went to La Rochelle about 5 years ago. Very picturesque. Some great seafood restaurants in the harbour. Also went on a trip round a cognac distillery nearby(ish) which was amazing. I drank some cognac from 1911. Not that I could tell the difference tbh.
Thats not to far removed from the itinerary of my school trip 1986/87. Lovely place as i recall.
