Starts this evening with the team time trial. It's a shame Schleck and Sammi Sanchez haven't made it but even so the field looks strong, and with so many uphill finishes it could be a real thriller.

It looks like a straight fight between Contador and Froome to me,and I guess it depends how much the Tour took out of Chris, and how strong Contador's team are protecting him in the mountains.
I can see the route,(which is an utter beast),suiting Rodrigeuz, but it would be a brave man who opposes the above two.

Happy days! Thought about them this morning on my 39 mile ride up to Bacup and back. I was bolloxed and just when I was getting a bit blase about how a grand tour not being too hard a thing to do I got a big wake up call for sure. These guys are the fittest of the super-fit and I take my hat off to all of them.

Now sit back, relax, and let's see how good Froome actually is.

Juan Antonio Flecha, Chris Froome, Sergio Henao, Danny Pate, Richie Porte, Ian Stannard, Ben Swift, Rigoberto Urán, Xabier Zandio is team sky.

My next three weeks viewing sorted :)

That bus looks like the one were going to stoke on.

Eirosports coverage is nowhere near as good as ITV 4.

I have turned off and will watch the highlights at 8pm

Can any of you cycling nuts please explain to a newbie the significance of the team trial.

I don’t know if there’s a definitive answer to this Rascal, but in this instance I think it just provides some variety as an alternative to an additional individual time trial. Although the individual classification is always the one we all focus on, at these grand tours (and I’d imagine most races for that matter) there is also a team classification (like in F1) for which there will be rewards, so the team time trial shines a bit of a light on that and reminds people that it’s not all about just the main men. It’s not so relevant right at the start of a tour, but had the time trial come a little later on it can also act as a guide to the fitness/strength of each of the teams and from that you can assess what level of support the main contenders are likely to receive in any remaining gruelling stages.
