They provide a decent standard of service, but they do so by charging extortionate prices for the captive peak travellers who have little choice on when they travel. It should not cost nearly £300 for a peak journey to London.

agreed but at least there is a train to board.

Wonderful!

More strikes.
Or alternatively they could stop unilaterally changing people's terms and conditions and imposing 1% pay rise caps for extended periods, giving people less reason to strike?

Riidiculous we have private monopolies taking taxpayers money to pay shareholder dividends

Just fucking ridiculous

It's entirely down to funding. If you are going to nationalise a service like this you need to give it adequate funding and reduce prices by the right amount such that service levels are maintained but profit margins are eliminated. It should be perfectly achievable and should lead to the same service at lower prices. There need to be mechanisms in place, though, to protect the service from political decisions affecting service levels much like we have with the Bank of England.

4. Point 3 proves you haven't got a clue about how the railways are structured and run and how much public money the train operators receive for supposedly running a private service. Why do you think Branson shit himself and pulled in all his political favours when he lost the franchise last year because it's a golden cash cow of public money.

Listen wall to wall, you're not playing with a full deck, I don't know of any privatised company that's succeeded. Ripped off for gas, electric, water, ballsed up the post office, cocking the NHS up, the list goes on.

Just when, oh when,oh when are the LWNJ's on here going to understand and learn that nationalisation does not work?
It has never worked and it never will work. If I am wrong on this then please feel free to highlight and articulate a successful example in modern / recent times.

A Private Finance Initiative - if structured correctly and fairly (where the government own circa 40% of the business) is the only way forward for such industries which should include all of the utilities.
