Lack of pace on the wings

You're right. So what happens when this version results in no trophies? When if ever will Pep reconsider his approach?
He is a winner. We will win something this season and depending on what it is he will carry on down this road or adjust. There is still a next step where either we adjust to Haaland or he adjusts to us or both move a little closer to the other. Still early days.

Pep went From Robben & Ribbery at Bayern (both fast) to Sane and Sterling (Both fast and integral part to our unforgettable centurian season where I believe we played our best football under Pep albiet chaotic but entertaining nonetheless) to Mahrez and Grealish ( total cost of £160 million, slow and with no x factor as the wingers mentioned above). Will never understand why.
Not just that. By Rodri replacing Fernandinho, we have also slowed down in Midfield with Fernandinho being so integral in quick passing movement when he still had legs. Nothing against Rodri as a player but Fernandinho was a superior player.

If this is all true about what Pep is trying to achieve then what is the trade off for the supporters? Boring, slow, robotic football with little to no dynamism will only fly if it results in winning, BIG TIME, and even then it will be a bit joyless. But going this pragmatic, boring route and NOT winning big is just unbearable to think about. The reality is all football managers have a shelf life, even Pep. If City don't remain on a level trajectory and actually bag a CL or 2 and sooner rather than later this ownership with what they invest in this side won't be happy and something will have to give. Does anyone actually believe Pep is the only man on Earth who would win big with the squads he's had here? He's been outstanding domestically and left wanting in Europe. Regardless of those on here who say they don't give a fuck about the CL that has nothing to do with Pep. He's trying his balls off and not having any real success. That's the reality, not who gives a fuck. The ownership group gives a big fuck. Plenty of supporters give a fuck too. That's just the facts. Sometimes you run out of novel ideas. Playing out of the back, great! Keeper with great foot skills and passing ability, awesome! High pressing and winning the ball back in 5 seconds or less (where did that go by the way), super!! False 9 in a 4-3-3, ingenious! Inverted wingers against a low block, not so good. Inverted FBs period, yuk! Some ideas are meant to tossed in the trash bin. Just sayin'.

Pep is one of, if not the best manager in the world, he's not an idiot and will see the issues with this season.

For me I do think pace and width is a big issue for us currently.

Walker is aging and will need replacing sooner rather than later (perhaps ready made with Lewis, but yet to see him play like a natural FB in the first team). Cancelo seems preferred on the left. Gomez doesn't seem ready or natural at LB. Ake does an admirable job, but is hardly classed as an attacking fullback when positioned there. Stones/Akanji similar.

Grealish doesn't play with width and lacks pace. Mahrez is equivocal on the other side, and Palmer seems most similar in style to him. Foden is our best option but again feels a bit wasted out wide. Alvarez whilst great, isn't a winger either. We arguably have one natural wide man in the squad in Mahrez, and his gameplan is predominantly cutting in anyway.

We've got one of the best strikers in the world, and seem reliant on KDB picking him out as we have no one else who gets wide and puts in a decent cross.

I imagine it will be an area we focus on in the summer window, we feel a bit predictable with too many similar style players.

I think people are overreacting with the whole 'boring' thing here tbh. I know it's not been incredible free-flowing football, but fuck me it's not that bad and we've absolutely seen some great football at times this season. Why are people acting like we're watching Atletico Madrid park the bus?

I’m not arguing with you mate. Pep will walk if he doesn’t get success or if the players stop responding to him. I just think a poor game against Everton has caused a massive overreaction.

The elephant in the room and increasingly so, is the slowing down of Kev.

His risk reward ratio was always offset by his and others' ability to get back in on the turnover of the ball.

Kev has had some truly shocking performances this season and Everton was another, where he was trying to force it when his fitness was letting him down.

He looks more and more for that killer pass when his legs can't take the strain.

It wasn't boring watching us destroy United 6-3!

This is grim reading, aw, fuck it! let's not forget where we came from, I just wish Pep could admit it when he fucks up, but he can’t...'the last three games- the best since I've been here’? 100% total BS.

Spot on

My fear with Bellingham to...not sure he is the right fit for us at all. Not sure his ability in tight spaces is there and he looks clumsy at times.
Finally read a comment about Bellingham that makes senses. In my opinion he is overrated for that price tag. Also not a right fit for us
