Good luck to the lad.
Good luck to all the club's young players. In fact, good luck (or at least, less bad luck) to the club's not-so-young players, too, at the moment.
But I digress.
I admit, I have often wondered why we can't get more full-backs through from the Reserves to the First Team. Specifically full-backs. In the good old days, we often seemed to be able to.
I get it with central defenders. Last (but one) line of defence. But we just seemed to find the space to squeeze the occaisional young full-back in for 5 or 10 appearances before obscurity knocked. I know it's a more technical position now. And they'd be expected to do more than clip balls down the line and, erm 'hit the space in the channels' (unless you played for Liverpool/United etc.).
But we're hardly talking about plucky youngsters from the Youth Team. I assume they're all internationals in their age group and therefore, basically amongst the best players in their position in the country. Let that settle in for a second. Gus Ceasar syndrome, perhaps? I suppose the coaches ought to know. The obvious answer is that they're simply not good enough.
Shame.
Anyway, good luck to L. Samuel
