laptop behaviour only on facebook

my wife has a toshiba laptop i bought for her 16 month ago,she only uses it for the internet really and has no files or anything stored on it,its fine as she browses the web and reading emails and such like,its just when she logs onto facebook the fan starts up and is slow to scroll down and clicking on pics and even logging out is very slow...any ideas you boffins out there....regards

mby something is using the connection while she opens the browser...would suggest to clean up it, if you dont want to bug yourself with anti virus and firewall software, then a system reinstall could do the best...
