Got an Advent Roma 2001 - last week it decided to just not boot up. The power button lights up but nothing comes on the screen (doesn't even light up at all) and the battery light flashes instead of staying on constantly. Can hear the fan going as if it's trying to start but nothing happens.

Tried unplugging the mains charger and taking the battery out then holding down the power button for 60 seconds but that hasn't sorted it and also tried hooking it up to an external monitor to see if it was just a fault with the screen but nothing.

Also tried putting in the recovery disc I made but whilst I can hear the fan and the disc going the screen stays blank.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Check your ram has'nt become unseated or try a different stick of ram if its not that it could be a graphics chip fault in which case its doomed.

Doesn't sound good tbh mate.

As it won't boot from disk or show on another screen it does indeed sound like your gpu has gone.
You can replace it but it is not worth it, you could get a new lappy cheaper than it would cost to have it fixed.

Yeah I have a feeling it's the graphics chip :/ error message used to always come up when I was on Footy Manager. Ah well, might have to get a new one then.

boot it up and apply pressure to the centre of the keyboard(dont be shy its fucked anyway) try a few areas with pressure, if it boots or you get any visuals, gpu has dry or broken solder joints. take the screen out then kick the rest down the street. put the screen on your fave auction site and have 3 pints in memory of the laptop
