Largest Away Following

Leeds in the cup in 1976 ? I was with my old man. Had nearly half the ground. Bloody Trevor Cherry.
Had the long walk back to Leeds Station after that. Probably helped that the Neanderthals were in a better mood.

Everton in 81 was another huge following probably about 14k. The walk back to Lime St was worse that day. Thank fuck for the escort.

Newcastle away in 1968. I was in the leazers end, which seemed like half and half. The opposite end was almost full of blues and to the left of the leazers there was a big group there. They reckon at the the time there was around 20,000 blues.
Everton in the league cup, I was sat in the top tier of the main stand. You went up on a flat escalator. We had the whole stand. City fans were behind the goal as well. Big turn out there.
Stoke away, the fancy dress one. We had half the ground. Must have been around 12,000 there. Happy days.

Stoke boxing day 88, Utd Fa cup loss when Clements weas fouled for their goal -we had thousands.
I remember Huddersfield away in the FA cup replay we took loads - as we did Notts County 85. Wednesday away for the wonderful 6 -2 too

The biggest I can remember was Stoke March 76, Stoke September 81 and Deeby April 77. League cup at Barnsley in the early 80s also springs to mind a shit 2 1 defeat I think. In terms of our following compared th home support Wimbledon away in the FA cupv 1999 will take some beating. Wimbledon were playing in Croydon at the time and Selhurst Patk was eerily empty apart from a rammed away section. We raised the roof for 90 mins as we were 3rd level playing a Premier league team. Think we had at least 6k there in a crowd of 11k. Lost 1 0 very unlucky but a fantastic day out. The following week we took thousands to Blackpool many with forged tickets those were the days.

I was there as an 8 year old with my dad. We ended up on the pitch and my dad dug up a small bit of turf. When we got home he put it in our front garden in Kingswood Road Fallowfield. When I’m in the area I drive past my old house and it all comes flooding back. Those were the days my friend as Mary Hopkins would have said/sung.

Our old house in Burnage also had a chunk of St James's Park turf growing in the back garden.

I wonder if the current occupants know what treasures they posess?

:)

Yep, that **** Olsen dived for a penalty and everyone stopped except Whiteside.

Sat with my old man in the K Stand.

We must have taken 12k in that FA Cup game when we scored first through Uwe?

Same again when we lost in the League Cup
semi-final when Tevez scored for us?

Don't think I have ever felt so low after a game as that night, cunts kept us all in playing their shite mega-mix over the tannoy.

Never seen us win live at swamp, apart from Arthur Albiston testimonial :(
I've only seen us win once there, when Benjani scored.

But still got to celebrate some great goals that we had loads there - Uwe's in the cup, Brightwell's (we should've won that game) and even in that '86? cup game, Varadi equalised but they disallowed it for a push apparently.

What would be our biggest away support in London, (not at Wembley). West Ham, relegation game?
Arsenal away in 1989 after we came up is a contender. The day we lost 4-0 in the yellow kit. I wasn’t there but a mate was. He went on the special and he said Arsenal fans were gobsmacked at the size of the escort. Seen some estimates of 8000 or more blues. Not sure how accurate that is but I think it was Arsenal’s second highest league crowd that season after the North London derby.

I've only seen us win once there, when The Goat scored with his first touch.

The game when Brightwell equalised, we really should have won that 3-1 minimum. Remember being very frustrated and having a meltdown as yet another decent chance was missed, right in front of us 2nd half.
