Can anyone recommend any trips or shows to visit when in Las Vegas?

My mum and some friends are going next year and we are looking to get her something special for her 50th Birthday which is this month, so thought about booking some things for her to do when she goes to Vegas. My dad passed away in December last year so we want to get her something nice.

Any tips on where to get tickets etc.? Looked online but not really sure which sites are the best to use.

Thanks

How long are you going for?

If you've got time, look to maybe hire a car and drive to the Grand Canyon. Depending on how long you're in Vegas for you may find you just NEED to get out for there for a few days!

Hoover dam on the way there too - a bit of Route 66!

came home from a Vegas trip a couple of weeks ago

helicopter direct from Vegas to Grand Canyon is about $500

we did the airconditioned double decker coach (via Hoover Dam which is distinctly unimpressive) to the South Rim or the Grand Canyon with Helicopter Flight over it which was $300 - plus you got to see a bit of US countryside too

A couple of other points...

Get in a hotel on the strip - don't go anywhere else - I can thoroughly recommend Venetian, MGM Grand or New York New York.
You won't need a car if you're staying in Vegas.
If you're not keen on gambling its not for you.
Even if you are keen on gambling, 3 or 4 days is the absolute most you could stand TBH

Thanks for the suggestions. The heli/plane rides over the canyon look great.

I know it's not a trip, but this may be of interest to you:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.travelzoo.com/uk/hotels/usa-canada/-72-up-Las-Vegas-Suite-at-Resort-on-The-Strip-1061000/utm_source=top20_uk&utm_medium=email_top20" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.travelzoo.com/uk/hotels/usa- ... mail_top20</a><br /><br />-- Wed Jul 06, 2011 11:58 am --<br /><br />Sorry about this...

Another thing to do about trips could be:

1. Join Quidco - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.quidco.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.quidco.com</a>
2. When on there - search for a company called "isango"

Isango offer a load of different trips etc in cities around the world. If you book with them through Quidco you'll get cashback.

They also do a price match promise too - which I called them on once and got the difference refunded no probs - AND the cash back!

Hope this helps

If you want to treat her to a show, given her age, I don't reckon you could go far wrong with this:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/love/default.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/ ... fault.aspx</a>

Mind blowing effects. The set was rumoured to have cost $100m.

"O" Cirque du Soleil is the resident show at the Bellagio and the best show in Vegas bar none, fully recommend it as it will blow her socks off.

Also if she likes Elton John he's just signed a new deal to be resident at Caesars Palace, another great venue.

Enjoy!

Have to agree with Dan.

'O' is amazing and one of the best shows I have ever seen.

Also agree the strip is the only place to stay.

The Grand Canyon and The Hoover Dam are a MUST!
Amazing places
Me and the Mrs went with The Pink Jeep Tours

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.pinkjeep.com/jeep-tours/lasvegas/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.pinkjeep.com/jeep-tours/lasvegas/</a>

We did the west rim tour and cost about £150 each which included, Personally guided and narrated tour of the Grand Canyon plus a stop for about an hour at the Hoover Dam
All fees included( NOT the skywalk though its a rip off $32 and you CANT take cameras on it)
Lunch provided on the tour
Complimentary hotel pick-up and drop-off

Well worth it, its a full day though around 10 hours. Heres a couple of pics
