I was wrong about Jurassic Park. Just looked it up. The 12a rating was introduced in 1989.Obviously a commercial decision with films like the Jurassic series. Not so sure there will be many kids desperate to go and see Dunkirk.
Nolan said he made a conscious decision so that young kids would be able to watch and be educated by it. At this rating it would be an option to be shown in schools in the future.
