Not sure if this was covered at the time, but been wondering what would've happened if we had to take a fifth penalty. Would Bony or Sterling have taken it? Or would someone else have stepped up?

Not that it really matters of course, but just intrigued. Apparently Goater was due to take the fifth in 99, but no idea who was next to step up this time.

I reckon it was set up for Sterling to win it for us but nobody told Willy the plan. The scouse meltdown would have been spectacular.

Caballero I'd hope. Rather Vinny or Zaba for the fifth than either of the two you named.

Ha, would've been great. Not sure he could've handled that pressure though. Never struck me as a natural penalty taker.

I'm glad he didn't have to take one. Probably his worst three games this season were against Liverpool.

If we need to win the RM game or indeed the CL final by penalty shoot-out, does anyone think it might be a good idea to take a leaf out of LvGs coaching handbook and stick Willy on with a few seconds to go, to handle that?

I asked the same question after the game, and was told that Bony was our 5th designated penalty taker.

Yeah, I suspect that was the case. Although having seen the way he ballooned that one against Sunderland I wouldn't have been too confident. Was surprised at the time he didn't put Iheanacho on instead in extra-time, after he nonchalantly dispatched his pen at Villa. Doesn't lack confidence that lad.

No. No I don't.

No, Hart is great with penalties as well, we're lucky there.

Better question, who in the squad would be your 5?

Mine's;

De Bruyne
Aguero
Yaya
Kolarov
Navas

Would have Hart and nacho for sudden death, unfortunately Nasri isn't an option.

Navas? I know he scored against Liverpool but his track record for getting shots on target isn't great. I'd go for Fernandinho. Wouldn't argue with the rest.

So you'd pick the guy who missed instead?! Genius!

Navas is actually a decent penalty taker surprisingly. Scored a couple for Spain rather well in the past.

In order from best to worst

Yaya
Aguero
De Bruyne
Kelechi
Kolarov
Nasri
Hart
Bony
Dinho
Delph
Sterling
Navas
Silva
Zab
Otamendi
Kompany
Clichy
Sagna
Mangala
Caballero

I've seen Navas take 2 penalties and they've both been perfect. I've seen Dinho miss the only one I've seen him take, while looking like he was bricking himself. I'd back all 7 players I've named to score, that's the thing.
Navas might not be great at finishing from open play but that doesn't make a penalty taker, remember Dunny's against Copenhagen?

Not when Joe has saved his last three CL penalties no.
