Support what? Clubs are going under, regardless of how well they're doing.
They're being hammered, absolutely hammered from the recession.
No team seems to be immune from it.
The best players are gone and go to England, any chance they get.
It's poor. The players get a nothing wage. They do not get a chance on the international side. (Though there are some excellent players) Most end up over in England anyway.
It's not top priority either.
In Ireland, football isn't the top sport, not even close, going on the last survery I saw it was fourth.
Money is pushed into hurling and gaelic football (and rightly so) and rugby.
At the end of the day, while people may like football here, most people will turn off a football match if their hurling/rugby team are playing on tv.
Most of our players, Given, Keane etc were in England before they were 18. So they never really had the chance to play in Ireland.
Obviously than you've the likes of Doyle who left Cork City (when he was ready, he took his time and waited till it was right for him) and I think it's really stood to him.
There have been an increasing number of players who start out in Ireland first.
But there's no question about it, you want to make it. You go to England because
you can't be sure of anything here. Top of the world one minute, best in the country, and a few months later you're players aren't getting their wages, and are slowly going into recievership.
There have been the cases where people like Coppell or Roy Keane have looked and targeted players from the League. But really that's it.
But it's an untapped place as such because if you're willing to look you'll find players.
And you'll buy them for pennies.
