Leeds (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

I was mocked, pre-match, for my expected team selection. Now, granted, I had Phillips, Palmer and Gomez in my team but I also had Lewis, Gundo, Foden, Alvarez, Haaland, et al. The next time I pick something ludicrous, you can think again about mocking me: I was blinded by my combover while trying to get a glimpse of the Queen's ass.
so you were totally wrong then?

The better team won, certainly, but we did give you a fright towards the end.
No, to be honest you didn't give us a fright. It was a bit more uncomfortable I agree, but not a fright. You got a flukey goal from our sloppy play and after that goal I don't recall - though correct me if I'm wrong - you having another sniff of a chance. The game was managed after your goal pretty well by us. We were our own worst enemy for having that situation at the end, it wasn't anything Leeds did.

I'd be more concerned about comments saying that performance gives Leeds hope. IMHO I thought Leeds were a disorganised bunch who offered next to nothing, much worse than West Ham last Weds night. On yesterdays showing and with the games you have left, you're in real danger of going down.

2-0 was fine. That's a fact.
2-0 is fine I agree, so long as it stays 2-0.

It didn't they scored, as is always possible, they didn't deserve a goal either, and as I said, it should have been 5 or 6 by then.

I thought we were far to casual in the second half, and it wasn't anything to do with the game on Tuesday night either, as many of them won't be starting in that game.

Around half of the starting eleven will likely be starting on Tuesday; and if we had gone all out in the last 20 minutes, as you seem to have wanted, and Kev or Haaland or Akanji or Foden got injured (much more likely than if we played the way we actually did, especially given some of the challenges Leeds players were putting in toward the end), you’d be railing against the team for not understanding the importance of our upcoming matches and criticising Pep for not calming things down.

They scored a fluke goal completely against the run of play; otherwise they had absolutely no threat, even in the second half (we locked it down right after they scored, as well).

I would also add that Ake’s injury in the 54th minute likely impacted the players mindset and made them far more conservative than they were in the first half, which is both understandable and likely prudent, particularly for the likes of Kev and Foden, who are just coming back from injury/knocks.

In the fresh light of day, do you still characterise the second half performance as a “disgrace”?

Has anyone else heard the rumours recently that Pete the badge had passed away?
I had, cant quite recall where i had read it, but was then pleasantly surprised to say hello to him outside yesterday.

Rumours of Pete the Badge’s passing are greatly exaggerated.

I'm going to admit something. I thought,“What a good lad, what a great gesture” at the time. But actually at only 2-0 up? More calmly, and not just because Leeds scored, no. Just no.
To be fair, if Gundogan had scored, the narrative would have been eaxactly that. ‘Well done Erling, how unselfish was he thinking of his team mate rather than his own goal scoring glory’. I had a bad feeling seeing Gundogan address the ball. I don’t like it when they don’t take a proper run up, always makes me uneasy.

On to the game in general, we hammered them, Erling could have hit 40 yesterday, so unlucky. We controlled the game despite a couple of players having ‘iffy’ performances. Just the penalty debacle and Leeds scoring created an unnecessary 5 minute panic. I didn’t see anything from Leeds that suggested they can get out of relegation to be honest, but a few of our key players got a well needed rest.

I fear for Kalvins future however, not getting a run out against his old club. A big red flag for him I think.

Edited for accuracy

A good display, with some frustration of not finishing Leeds of properly. Leeds didn’t offer much, but they battled until the end of the match.
