Leicester (N) - Community Shield | Post-Match Thread

I just thought they are now taking us for granted. We paid money on train/Petrol to get down there and some stayed over because of the train times and they couldn't bother giving us flags for the occasion

I know with certainty people will be all over it and say what does it matter, but it does. Small things like this,as you say, gives the impression the club don't care and are taking the fans for granted. It's a slipping of standards and if not checked spreads. You're in the City team and walk out at Wembley. You see thousands of flags waving at the Leicester end and at our end fuck all. If that makes just a couple think, "Meh, nobody's taking this game that seriously" and their performance dips just a bit because of that mental shift , it can make a difference.

Give your fanny a wipe!

You think the players get “up” for a game at Wembley because of cheap nylon flags?

Wembley was an “event” for Leicester and their fans, but it was a pre-season friendly for City, because 80% of our regular First XI weren’t even back in training yet and we had to play fringe players and kids with a few friendliest in their legs!

This year, the Community Shield was a joke! Seriously. And, the quality of the game was reflective of just how shit it was all around!

It used to be a “curtain raiser” for the season, after fans had been waiting almost THREE MONTHS to see their team (and individual players) back on the field.

Players had gone on their hols for a month or so, and 99% of people had no idea where they were or what they were doing, but they usually came back with a few extra pounds they had to run off in the 2-4 weeks of pre-season training and friendlies.

This year, a team full of international players was missing nearly every one of them, and they played against a full strength team playing their last pre-season game and bedding in their new signings!

And, please don’t take it as sour grapes, because while I definitely wanted City to win, the whole fixture was a mockery this year. The only saving grace are the charities and communities that got some much needed income from the event.

Non stop football lately. Euros, CopaAmerica and the Olympics.
On the same day as our game against Leicester , the Olympic final was being played between Spain and Brazil.

I don't need to wipe anything thanks but as I said in my earlier post and this one I expected the usual responses similar to that.

I was also aware of all the complexities and difficulties surrounding our team selection, my post wasn't about any of that. My post is about Leicester as a club providing flags that added to the atmosphere, giving their fans something, while we didn't. Also why was it an "event" for Leicester and their fans but not for us? I'm sure due to the availability of tickets lots of kids were attending their first game at Wembley, was it not the biggest event of their young lives?

No City as a club are starting to alienate the fans. Whether this is a deliberate decision taken by a new person at the helm in these matters or inadvertently I have no idea, but it's happening. From forcing this bloody ticket on the phones idea to no flags at Wembley for the fans, it smacks of we don't care either about you or what you think, you take it or leave it. We're the richest club in the world everyone is constantly telling us, but they couldn't provide a few cheap plastic flags for the hardy souls who went to great expense and trouble to go down there and support a scratch side in what you say is a glorified friendly. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth and no "Wipe your fanny" type of comments will change that opinion so save them

Is your enthusiasm flagging?

I paid £20 for the ticket. With travel and food, etc, probably £100 is nearer the true cost.
Did I really get value for money, watching city reserves, even at that small ticket price?
Probably not, as we were shit, by our standards. But,it's City innit! And I haven't seen a match for a hundred years!
It was a pre season friendly against an almost full strength Leicester. They had a couple of defenders unavailable due to long term injury, but apart from that, they were at full strength. We had 7/8 1st teamers missing and 2 teenagers playing, who - to me - looked out of their depth.
Ederson, Walker, Stones, KDB, Sterling, Foden, Laporte, Jesus - blimey, 8 of them - all missing, who would most probably have started, with Bernardo and Grealish on the bench for the day. But, I knew it would be like that. So, no issues. Shame about the result. Good day out. Saw City. It was a pleasure to be there. Can't complain
:-)

I agree that stood in the City end it felt a bit like second class Citizens with all the flags waving at the Leicester end and none at ours, first time I think that’s happened at Wembley. My kids were a tad disappointed with it too. Not a huge issue, but an issue nonetheless. I went, so I wanted us to win, supporters and atmosphere helps win football matches, flags help with atmosphere and the club must know that (otherwise why do it at big home matches in Europe?)

While he’s wiping his fanny can you wind your fucking neck in? He is right that the lack of flags at our end detracted from the atmosphere, and he is within his rights to say it

Cheers it's okay I expected a fair few of those responses but I don't care. I think I've earned the right to say it, been all over with City since 68, been jumped, attacked, fought on the terraces, in streets and even on non football days when you bumped into opposition fans when out. Paid fortunes for tickets and made 600 mile round trips for home games for five years when I lived in Kent.

It would have been a small gesture and cost for the club for fans who knew it was going to be a second string team yet still forked out hard earned money and travelled 200 miles to support the team. Leicester did it ours didn't and it made us look cheapskates and was a bad decision by whover decided they couldn't be bothered.
