lepidopterist help needed

was just lazing in the hammock, as you do, when this bugger came crawling over the patio

now as it happens 2 chickens spotted it at the same time and a race ensued, however, when the winner got to it, it stopped and would not eat it, nor the other chicken, therefore I presume it is toxic? anyone know what kind of beast it is and what it will turn into?
about 3 inches long before anyone asks
