As far as im aware the rules on player quotas are different in italy think they limit the amount of non eu players you can sign a year meanwhile in england its you have have to hqve 8 players trained in england in your 25 man squad, the problem with buying before you sell is the fact that teams then now you a desperate to sell which will lower the fees they are willing to offer

That is not correct. The CL rules are the same across europe. You can have 17 players from anywhere, a further 4 trained at an english club and a further 4 who are over 21 and club trained. There is NO quota there is maximum numbers based on where players trained.

Don't forget you can have as many players as you like, in theory we could have say 50 players in our squad. 25 registered to play the prem and 25 for CL. All I believe are eligible to play in the two cup competitions. The major fault with this would be keeping players happy which is why most clubs try to aim for having identical players for the two major competitions. But if the likes of Kolorov cannot be found a club they could just be omitted from the squad lists if push comes to shove.

That is not correct either, premier leage rules are very similar to CL rules. If you are registered in the PL you can play league cup, i'm not sure about FA cup but it might be the same i.e. based on PL squads. So you could have two squads for different things but they would not all be able to play domestic cups and it would be a complete shambles!

There is no way round the rules - Zuculini was the 18th foreigner last year and look what happened to him!

Don't know if it's been put up already but Marca are claiming that we've got a pre-agreement with him that we'll buy him next Summer at the lower buy out clause if we can't do a deal now.
Perhaps a prod to Schalke to accept the higher fee now?
That would be ideal really, he could use another year at Schalke imo and we have plenty of attacking mids this season already (Silva, Nasri, Raheem, Navas, Nacho, KDB and Garcia) without enough up front. He might be a striker in time fair enough but it's not going to be the season coming in the Premier League.

The difference is Bayern have done it when they were already winning and just came off a treble.

We're trying to rebuild the squad NOW, not waste possibly 1/3 of Pep's tenure here waiting for players to arrive.

As I've just said in another thread, the evidence suggests that's not the case.

Some fans are panicking about everything has to happen today. I don't think Pep is doing that, he's just building a team & in a year or so it will be something close to what he has in mind.

In the meantime, it's still likely to be pretty fucking good. Just not 'as' good as it will be.

I agree mate. Cant do everything in one summer and with so many players in the final year of their contract and looking unlikely we going to be able to move them all on, I think it could be next summer before this is truly "pep's team". As you say, we can expect improvements but my guess would be that next season is when we will start to see this teams full potential under Pep.

Kicker.de is running a headline right now which says that the Sane decision will be made this week. I am not sure if this is old news on here. It was news to me. It will be good to finally get clarification.

It was going to be made this week 3 weeks ago, the week after that and last week as well. Good to see a bit of consistency in the reporting :)

Just read the article, Schalke are standing by their fee of €50million, for which they have identified several transfer targets to spend it on. Sane has already agreed to the move and City will decide this week whether they want to pay Schalke's asking price or get him for less off his release clause next year.

To be fair, kicker.de never reported that it was going to be made "this week" before. Nor did any mainstream German media, for that matter.

Just recycling the English Press stories from 3 weeks ago (and two weeks ago and last week) then, the robbing German bastards.

I was talking about league rules not cl rules

Cheers!;) So its £42mil to sign him now or try again next summer at his £28mil release clause (but risk Bayern/Real trying to jump back in the race)
