Leroy Sane PFA Young Player of the Year

No offense to Leroy but these awards are stupid. They literally looked for reasons not to give player of the year to KDB. How anybody could have watched the PL this year and not seen that he was the best player is beyond me. Raz will never get his due since he left a club with 'istry for a club where he gets to win titles and see his game improve by leaps and bounds.

BTW, if Mo is so great how could he let his team drop points in 15 (FIFTEEN!!!!) matches out of 35? City have dropped points in five matches and KDB has been the focal point the whole season.

This is the PFA, so it's footballers only. You may be crediting them with brains.
As I see it, de Bruyne's autumn won the title; Salah's been scoring pretty heavily since Christmas.
By the time voting happened, the first half was fading from Footballer Memory, and de Bruyne hasn't scored before Swansea for quite a while. Salah has continued scoring, and sticks in memory.

Sane on the other hand has probably terrorised most right backs and will stick in their minds for long range runs; I suspect most defenders would be happier facing Sterling than Sane, and so voted for Sane.

The Football Writers is the other main award. That's members-only and voting closes on Monday 30th.

I have some vague recollection of Utd instructing their players not to vote for City's, maybe 20 years ago. No idea if that's true or not!

I don't doubt there is some bias against Sterling even amongst players, but I think the main thing is that he has been playing in the league for so long and that certainly weighs against you a bit for an award like this. It's his 6th full season playing in the Premier League. He is still young, but he is essentially a veteran at this point and I can see why a player would think a guy who was still new to the league and a bit younger would be more deserving. Either way, it's fantastic that one of or guys won it. About time.

Been a great season for Leroy, just needs to improve his finishing and he can achieve anything he wants with the talent he possesses.

Fuck me. Same wins this and all Sterling can do is go for breakfast........

This. By just about any metric Sterling had a better season, but at this point he's been around too long to really feel like a "young player". Plus Raz's purple patch of form was way early in the season, recency bias is a thing.

That said, when I see transfer rumors involving wingers (Hazard for ex.), I just role my eyes. We've got two of the best wingers in the league, both 23 and under. I don't think I'd replace them for any player at their position in the world (Ronaldo is too old and only shows up for CL nowadays). Everybody is crazy about Salah...he's two years older than Raz. Give Raz two more years of work on his finishing and he'll net 40 goals. Meanwhile, Sane is deadly AF. This team has taken it's shot at the Invincibles, will hopefully pull off something equally impressive (100 points). Next year, with a little more depth and a little less focus on the league (maybe only win it by 10 points lol), a triple or quad is plenty doable.
