Joleon Lescott has hit back at stories suggesting he is set to miss the rest of the season with Manchester City and possibly miss out on a World Cup place.

The £24-million defender, who has missed the last three weeks of City's campaign with a hamstring problem, was reported to have made little progress in recovering from his injury and was spend the remainder of City's games on the sidelines.

However Lescott, who's versatility has made him a realistic candidate to make Fabio Capello's England squad for the World Cup in South Africa this summer, has insisted that this is not the case.

"It's news to me," he told Soccer AM.

"I thought the rehab was going quite well.

"It will probably be about three weeks before I'm hopefully back playing.

"I saw that I was out for a month yesterday, and that was a surprise, so this is even more of one to see it today."

The 27-year-old has been using an oxygen tent to speed up his recovery to get playing again, but despite wanting to get involved as quickly as possible, Lescott acknowledged that his side are in a good position gain an all important fourth place finish and Champions League place.

"Things are going well for us at the minute; we're in pole position for fourth so there's no complaints," he added.

"It's not easy but most of our games are at home and we've been good there this season."

This is incredible news!

Why not post it in caps lock so more people can see it?

Hopefully we will get him back for Spurs, Villa and West Ham.

Edit: Sorry, I have just seen all the other posts bringing this up.
