Alright, without cheating (seriously, don't open another window and type in Wikipedia or Google, otherwise the thread will be useless).....what happened on these dates in history........just a few significant dates from the past thousand years of recorded human history, and I am doing this largely for the younger Blues. Like I said already this could get ruined almost immediately, but I thought I would give it ago. LOOK AT THE OP ONLY, then reply, as if you scroll down you will undoubtedly see the answers (hopefully) and thus end the thread.

Bearing in mind I'm cr*p at this sort of thing and can't even remember what day it is...

1066 - Battle of Hastings
1215 - Some other battle involving one of the King Richards?
1861 - Bound to be something big, but can't think what.
1871 - See above.
1914 - Start of WW1
1939 - Start of WW2
1989 - Madchester? Plus I started at uni in London.

Edit: B*ll*cks if 1215 is Magna Carta. Thought of that at first, but then convinced myself that MC was way earlier. Think I ended up confusing myself with the Mappa Mundi!
