Wow! How do the 'First World' play this scenerio...?

Personally, I'm glad, it means quite possibly The U.S. and Britain will no longer puff their chests as 'elder statesmen', but go 'cap in hand' to try and bargain for much needed resources. Canada also have oil. Sandwiched is the U.S. who have continually snubbed their noses at their neighbours! Added to this...

... Does it potentially spell the end of 'super power'? Or does China become the out and out only true power left...?

Leveling the playing field is one way of looking at it but Venezuela are taking over the whole region with there offer of buy oil now pay for it later.
Chavez is a very dodgy character whose socialist views are great at first glance but dig deeper and are his intentions for the good of his people or is he just doing what dictators have done in the past?
Renationizing what he can even though foreign investment help set most of it up is not good for future business.
Most of the countries around Venezuela now depend on one country to supply there oil.Free market enterprise or just oneupmanship on America because Chavez hates everything they do??

He does hate the Americans with a pyschopathic passion, doesn't he?!

You could spin your last point on its head, mind. When you have nothing and rely on foreign help, like the Americans, they tend to help only if there's something in it for them. Maybe Chavez thought 'cheers mate' now do one, cos he doesn't want to be indebted to foreigners. We've seen many results of debts, throughout the world.

Is it a bad thing to re-nationalise, in that case?
