Liam Delap | £16m bid from Southampton rejected

He is approaching 20 and has had abour 4 minutes of football. He is unlikely to just get thrown into significantly more.

It is a great move for him. Southampton are well known as a showcase for young players and have been a stepping stone for many players. He should be jumping at it. Particularly if they pay big for him, they will play him.

There is no point keeping him here, it is of no use to anyone.
Totally agree, he needs to be playing and need to prove he is over all his injury issues.

Brilliant move for the lad and Southampton.

Doubt he will score a lot for them as they waste time and pass back to their goalkeeper 90% off the time, would be a wasted move
Do you not think they may be about to change the way they play with the erm new manager in charge?

The Not at the end confused me a bit. Be good if this move happens.

Must be something in it from all sides for them to keep coming back.

We're able to pick 5 subs from 9 next season I think; Haaland does have a history of some injuries so will not play every game and Alvarez has come from south America so will need to get used to a new country, a new way of playing plus I think he's been playing quite a bit of football. I think we'll need Delap plus he is a highly promising striker. I hope we keep him, Palmer and McAtee.
If Haaland goes down injured we will revert to the no-striker formation.

Delap may as well leave, he isn't getting a chance here, sad to say it tbh.

What about the parts he wasn't injured? Or previous seasons? Nearly 20 and has about 80 combined minutes to his name. Move him on
Don't be a clown.

He was being eased back into playing for the U23s from around the end of last February (he was injured in pre-season) when the 1st team were balls deep into all competitions.

Nearly 20? His birthday is in February which means he was only 18 when last season started which was written off. He was only 17 when he signed for us in the summer of 2020 so when exactly was he supposed to get all of these minutes?

The bottom line is that Delap needs minutes and City need to protect their asset - we seem to think he has significant potential. It’s a tough call send him to the South Coast (with a buy back) where he will get limited opportunities or loan him to Burnley where it’s possible he will play every week… we could then reassess the situation next June. Personally given we don’t need the money I’d go with the Burnley option. As an aside - this guy who’s left City for Soton shouldn’t be encouraged just to cherry pick our academy - other PL Chairman are going to be all over our academy staff looking to do the same.

Keep him.

We seem to press with 4 up top, 2 "Strikers" and 2 wingers.

There will be space for him down the line to rotate with Haaland and Alvarez.

We need to keep players who are "killers" in front of goal, we have enough players who can create, as does the academy, don't lose those who have an eye for goal.

Have the club come out and said he’s not for sale. If they haven’t then I would suggest he’s gone for the right price

Have city said he’s not for sale
No.
I'd be sad to see him sold without him getting a proper chance at City. I hope he stays and gets minutes in early round cup games. And also game time in league games when we are comfortably ahead to allow him 15 minutes or so now and again.
Realistically the cup games are likely the bedding in minutes for Alvarez etc. Delap is far too good for PL2, the odd bit of game time isn't enough. I hope a loan move can be sorted, even for a couple years like we did with Callum Doyle.
