Agreed.

They’re absolutely fucked and they know it. There’s literally nothing that they can do other than to wait it out and extract the maximum value from city while hoping perhaps something crazy comes out of nowhere that’s even better.

I don’t see any movement in the near future except for posturing on their end and making outrageous demands. Maybe City will get impatient and panic buy for more than they should.

I think it ends with handshakes all around and city paying €100m+Garcia.

Was with you till the last line. Agree, all they can do is bravado to frustrate and delay. And that is a disgrace, because it is messi, who deserves more.

100m is ridiculous, that's maybe what they might expect if he Didn't have a clause, and just submitted a bog standard transfer request.

I see our media have tagged it as 'barcelona reduce asking price to 150m'. They mean, barcelona increase asking price by 150m.

From BBC gossip
" Manchester United have the money to buy Messi, but Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho, 20, is still their main transfer target. (Express) "
I would like to add I could have married Michelle Pfeiffer but I decided on my missus instead :-(
Im glad you did as Michelle and I have been very happy together after you ditched her

I think if it went to court, aor an arbitrator, they would side with messi. Irrespective of the wording, they would look at the intent in the spirit of the clause and what it is there for, in an unforseen global circumstance.

i.e the clause is there to let messi leave at the end of the season, and to give barca time (the transfee window) to deal with it. given the season has just ended there, and the window is open til October, no judge would see Barcelona as disproportionately affected by the agreed clause being activated beyond the original date. Whereas enforcing the original date would completely screw over messi, making the move the clause is there to enable, impossible.

In my opinion. Based on nothing but logic.
Telegraph carries an article which has the opinion of a sports lawyer who says that a ruling would probably go in favour of Barcelona. I think City could do a deal as I don't think Barcelona can really continue , but it might put City off. A free transfer makes sense but if you add a transfer fee?

I'm very open to debate on that last line. I'm working under the assumption that Messi feels obligated to throw them a bone before he leaves. Ultimately he can set the price at whatever the hell he wants it at because he knows his value and city will probably pay it. It'll be very interesting to see the final figures.
