It's an interesting contrast isn't it of the two clubs.

David Silva joins City, puts in performance after performance, winning titles and trophies, becoming a legend, cementing his place in the hearts and minds of the club and it's supporters and reciprocating that appreciation in return. Decides it was time to move on, the club honours his wishes and assists in providing David with the move that best suits him.

Messi? Barcelona treats him like shit, disrespects him and other players, falls out with manager and president alike over treatment, announces intention to leave club where he became a legend, club throws as many obstacles in his way and goes so far as to call Daddy La Liga to force him to stay. It's not the Barcelona I was led to believe!

B-b- but, apparently, we have no class.

I think this week the vast majority of Barca fans will come out in support of Messi leaving. They know what Leo has given them for 20 years and do not have the selfish interests of the people in charge. The fans will wish him well and force the board to change their stance.
There’s a poll on the barcacentre twitter.

24,000 votes

88% say Barca should help to facilitate his exit

I see the star are running with the story that uefa will be checking the figures on any deal for messi. I assume this is bollocks and if they tried we'd tell them to fuck off ans check the dippers coutinhio millions and the phantom stadium build.

It simply means they are afraid the club will indeed have to negotiate an exit. Release clauses aren't there to be paid at all times. No one paid Ronaldo's €1bn clause, neither will anyone pay €700m for Messi.

Tebas just knows how damaging it is to La Liga for Lionel Messi to exit the league now.

You are right but its different case now.

1- Messi and his legal team believe he is free and can leave for nothing.
2- Barcelona & La Liga believe the release clause of 700m is still valid

If we have to negotiate with Barca, it means Bartomeu is right and Messi can't leave without his permission.

One thing is for certain of a player really wants to leave a club then it is almost impossible to keep him irrespective of the length of contract. Sure legally a club can but a player can just go through the motions on the pitch so they might as well let him leave.

Unless Messi invokes the Webster ruling

David Silva was completely out of contract so it's somewhat different.

At the end of the day Barca is all about politics, fans running football clubs is a recipe for disaster.

The president does not want Messi walking out on his watch on Messi's terms, that's the issue.
