Genuine question to everyone who thinks this is dead. What if we knew nothing and out of the blue Messi gave that interview and we found out the only club he wanted and was talking to was us. This place would go nuclear and everyone would say is defo coming to us and could never play for Barca again after what he said about the hierarchy and quality of current playing staff. There is no way this is over.

I agree. Seeing Messi at City would be awesome of course. But our weakness last season would not have been cured by signing Messi. I can understand the commercial benefits of signing such a player - but the development of the team and tactics are more important - as Messi said himself the financial figures are totally unrealistic - that’s why clubs insist on these massive buy out clauses. Distraction over - move on now with preparations for new season.

Even though I wasn’t fussed about him coming to city I do feel sorry for him as he has earned the right to choose and go where he wants . By the looks of it they have done a number on him but I can understand why he wants to. Leave on good terms . City should now wrap his transfer up at Christmas. If he still wants to sign . If we did this with any of our players I would be absolutely ashamed of the club. It wouldn't reflect badly on anyone else.

But because it's someone else's player and because we wanted him, it's an entirely different story. Obviously.

Positives from this:

Messi not joining is a chance for Pep to prove to everyone he is capable of winning the UCL without Messi.

Messi not joining means more playing time for Ferran, Sterling, Jesus, Foden, Bernardo.
None of them I was willing to let go.
